2 version license release of MFL?
Hi, don't know if this has been covered. (haven't read through all the posts) ..
But I've been thinking that a 2 version release would be cool..
1. A 'Lite' version where you can use MFL 3rd party ensembles and Ableton pre-made devices. Also with this version it would be a good idea to give a few of the creative building blocks so one could see how they get on with the concept. This would be upgradable to the full MFL version.
2. The full blown MFL version.
I think this could be a good way to help people get into MFL..

My guess is they won't. MaxRuntime wasn't created as a sort of teaser for new customers, but more for people having to run patches on several machines, without forcing them to buy multiple licences.puRe wrote:I guess they will make a free runtime and a full version...
People will have a demo, maybe even on Cycling74 terms (30 days full trial). After that, it's buy or not.

they'll probably release a full version AND a runtime.pepezabala wrote:It definetly would make sense to offer an option to use devices created in MfL for users that don't want to edit those max patches. Without running in demo mode.
the runtime will provide the feature to use MfL devices without editing features... it is a kind of "device player"
Max/MSP is released like that since a lot of time
you can download and use the runtime ... for free!

yes I know, and I have been using some little patches with the runtime in the past. Eg. the patch for using the apple remote as midi controller. Or this nice audio-to-midi thing that someone posted here once.julienb wrote:they'll probably release a full version AND a runtime.pepezabala wrote:It definetly would make sense to offer an option to use devices created in MfL for users that don't want to edit those max patches. But I believe that somewhere on the Max-stie they say that you will need the full MfL-license to run a patch in live.
Would be nice if someone from the companies could chime in and explain what they think about it. I mean if Max for live costs less than 100 €, then I am fine with just buying it. But if it's somewhere close to the full max license, then I probably won't buy it, but continue to play around with Pure Data when I am bored without internet connection, hehe.

I just hope they'll announce things asap!

I think that just a 'run time' version without any of the creative aspects wouldn't necessarily help introduce people into making their own ensembles.. which would be a shame..
I think a 'stripped down' lite version would be better all round..
However I don't know how easily this could be implemented..

IIRC Someone from Ableton was saying that you dont need MFL for using the Max created FX VSTis etc. Just for making them and editing them.
I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

I think runtime built in would be smart for them:
1. It would allow decent max programmers to build plugs and sell them to non-max people. This would definitely encourage Max people to buy the full version. Some of the best plgs I've seen were built with max
2. Non Max people trying out new and interesting tools for it will be intrigued enough to go to the full version. This was the case with me and Reaktor. Someone passed on to me the Mewark Stoderaft ensemble, which was an old, stand alone reaktor instrument. I loved it so much, I went out and bought Reaktor...
On a side note, with max for live, I may consider selling reaktor, as NI do not seem interested in keeping it alive.
