I am a relative novice at sound recording and Live (I have Live 6 LE). But I am trying to import a wav file (piano accompaniment recorded earlier) in order to add vocal tracks.
When I find the file via the Live browser and click on it, it "shows" as 3 Audio in the Session view. If I double-click on the name, it shows as a wave form below in the clip view.
BUT--it doesn't appear in the Arrangement view at all, and when I hit "play" there is no playback in Session or arrangment views.
I tried the File Manager protocol and ended up with a Live Project created that appears to contain the wav file, but if I open that Project file, the results are the same.
How does one import a wav file to Live LE?
Thanks, Patricia Bauer
Importing a wav file
Hi,
I recommend you try the built-in lessons in Live, especially for Session view - that should get you up and running quickly.
Clips don't appear in arrangement view unless you copy (or drag'n'drop) them there from Session view. So the Global Play button won't play anything as your arrangement is still empty. Try the Clip Launch button in Session view to - hopefully - play your wav.

Importing a WAV
First of all, this is not a problem or a bug, so you are in the wrong place.
From what you have said, you have dropped your audio clip into a slot in Session View.
If you click on the little arrow next to your file, it should play.
Ditto, if you click the corresponding arrow in the MASTER column, it should play.
My suggestion is
i - arm your track (audio 3) for recording in Session View.
ii - set Live to record
iii - play your clip through
iv - stop recording once it's played
v - it will now appear in Arrangement View
I'm not saying that's the only way to do it, but it should work and preserve all the attributes of your original file.

You can leave out step i - not necessary - ii to v will do it.Suede Subway wrote:
