midi doesn't care what software you are running, so it won't matter.

you just get to decide who is the master and who is the slave.... kinky.

check out ipmidi.
mac version is free. you just sync your laptops via crossover lan cable.

you dont need anything else, do it over airport. works fine. go to audio midi setup on both computers, and under midi tab go to network, create a new session on one computer and join the session on the other computer. make sure sync is on under live's preferences for the network.

my band uses this all the time on tour and we have visuals and lighting all sync'd through airport.

this is all off the top of my head, but its actually pretty easy to do. have fun.

this sounds really cool but I think I would rather hardwire it, I would panic of it losing connection/sync during a set

a crossover cable is a different cable then a normal cat 5 ethernet cable.

here is the diagram http://www.ertyu.org/steven_nikkel/ethernetcables.html

Use the mac midi network app to create midi tunnels from one machine to another. Image

No, he means a crossover cable, which is like a cat 5 ethernet cable except its called a crossover - which is for hooking up two computers via the ethernet port. The standard cable is for connecting a computer to a router.

airport sync is pretty stable, we sync 3 computers each running video, lighting and audio. There was only one instance where our sync got messed up at a gig in vancouver, for whatever reason maybe some strong interference of some sort from a broadcasting station nearby.

but otherwise, you have to be able to deal with these issues in a professional manner on stage, because problems have a way of happening when you least expect them even when you are sure everything was set right.

another idea is to use a midi interface for each computer, that is probably the best hardwire solution. since the newer live update the external sync has been fixed.
