Someone tell me Live 8 will have dual screen support????

I would also like to eventually see proper dual screen support in Live.

Live's Session view mixing screen is not very elegant on high track counts and it would be amazing to have session on one screen and arrangement on the other. Cubase in dual monitor mode is much more mix friendly for larger projects, which is one reason why I still do some mixing with it and render out the audio files from Live.

It's not as huge a deal as some other features but would be welcomed by MANY. This is not a secret, in the 2+ yrs I've been on this forum, I've seen it requested by dozens of people.

Maybe in Live 9 !!

Lack of real estate slows and hurts my workflow on a 15" lappie.

OF COURSE I want and need a way to see more of what I'm doing on a separate monitor, whatever it takes.

+need to see more tracks
+need to see more scenes
+need to zoom less
+need to see more in drum racks
+need to see more in MIDI editor, in effects racks, etc.

A simple key command to expand the Piano Roll subwindow to full screen and back without having to disappear the subwindow entirely would be nice.
Ideally I would like to be able to tear the subwindow off the main window like you can with Reasons sequencer. It would be nice to see both Session and Arrangement at the same time for sure. All this should be an option though, so people who don't want it, don't notice it.

Agree 100% that racks would be great with much more work space!

other then that im happy just using one large screen in the studio, and I have a very small laptop 12" when im performing, jamming out etc. if I would need a biger screen on a gig, I would simply ask them to provide it for me.

I wouldnt mind being able to seperate session and arrange on two screens. just saing ive gotten used to one big screen instead, of two 20" screens that I used in the 90ties and early 2000. Takes less space in the studio! And I can fit a lot of tracks to mix down on my single 24". In the future I would prop get a 30", when the prices come down on them.

I use the second screen output to mirror the display at another location in the studio. For use when recording live instruments etc. I have connected 2 mice and 2 keyboards to the same pc, and it works great.

Most of us daily users actually never think about it. Reason and Cubase needs it, agree. Live is not a DAW like the rest though. Its something unique and modern. Rather cutting then adding futures! Ive used other dual screen daws for years, but never felt it was something I needed in Live. Ive never worked as much in any DAW as I have in Live, and I have worked a lot in Cubase.

anyway, I dont think it will happen anytime soon, because apparently it would need a major rewrite of the code.

agreed & as mentioned if you have 2 monitors you have a spare for running another app vsts rewire ect, with cubase i could probably have done with 3+ monitors.

I embolden me text because there's a lot of different ways you guys seem to want "dual monitor support" and VERY FEW have ever put words to what they actually want, compared to the people repeating the chorus.

Now, if you are looking to have the mixer from session view while at the same time viewing your arrangement, then you will have it. And that's one of the things that would certainly improve MY workflow.
How will you get it? It'll be a maxForLive patch. If Ableton doesn't do it, then I certainly will, within hours/days of getting my hands on MaxForLive. 100% certain.

If you're talking about putting, say, the midi editor on one screen and arrangement view on the other... might be more difficult, but not impossible with max for live, either.

If it's something different altogether, then please share it with us.

No need for tear off GUIs or multiple windows. It could be done without any need to redesign the GUI.

To my mind the best way to do it would be to have two copies of the same GUI. Both operating on the same data, but independently adjustable. Any edits made on one would be reflected on the other.

That way you could have one GUI set to session and one set to arrange. Or you could have both set to session view; one with lots of space allocated to the mixer and one with mixer hidden so you can see all your clips without scrolling.

I’d go one further than just multiple screen support, but a more modular GUI environment. It’s not just being able to see session and arrangement views together.

What about having piano roll and instrument/effects view open at the time? All very well if everything you use is 3rd party. But don’t you think Ableton’s own instruments should have the same advantages as VSTs?

What about being able to expand instrument views to fill up a second monitor? Operator with all envelopes visible at once, perhaps? Has anyone else noticed that the new operator now has 2 center gui diplays for each section, which you then toggle between? It’s going to start getting messy. People already bitch about the analog layout being confusing as it’s too compact. Sampler would definitely benefit.

How about having two clips visible at onece? Useful for both DJs and for composing.

Multiple chains visible at once on racks.

If you don´t get it: it is a core feature of Live to support only one monitor and it was one reason for me to switch to live.
If the Abes would support two monitors the first people would moan why are there no undockable windows. and so forth and so on.

(flaoting windows are an ergonomic error!)

Sure about that? I was under the impression M4L devices still sit in the regular device view. Besides, I don't know how much extra I'd be prepared to pay for M4L. It sounds interesting, but not exactly critical for me.
