I thought Orange County was the suburb to end all suburbs. I don't know it but by reputation it has a lot of guys like these:McQ714 wrote:is Orange County considered suburbs? you might know my friend from SF.. he goes by Cheech or Vagabond or Chris... he a sound engineer, used to work at Mighty, does a weekly spot called Terenga Thursdays.

Innovations in HIP-HOP??? Can't remember the last innovation in hip-hop since its invention.
Less plagiarism would be a good start!!! Fresh intelligent lyrics may also work. Something I'd love to see is mime-hop... silent hip-hop would be awesome. Another great hip-hop innovation may be the embracing of creativity, community, positive constructive thoughts... you know... the stuff that may just do something good for the world.
I'm such a hater and a hypocrite...

that's rich.Geezus wrote:hip hop needs moar
1) melody
2) composition (enough with the 4 bar loops)
3) interesting instruments/production
4) interesting lyrics
5) funk and soul
I'd also say less rapping and more talented singing but then it wouldn't really be hip hop anymore. seriously though I'm tired of people talking over tracks, its fucking lazy. Learn to sing, its music

but this is an oxymoron isn't it?aizo wrote:Hiphop or any form of it would be 5000X better if the term "hater" or "hating" was eradicated. It seems less people critique hiphop music just because of these terms(at least in the hiphop world). If I was to say to TI(not that he is hiphop....just an example)

That stupid stuff always cracks me up.McQ714 wrote:i hope you're kidding. that's exactly the type of jibberish i expected to get from the hiphop community. nothing against you personally, but what if i told you that techno was a way of life!!! that just doesn't make any sense and it just isn't so. Who do you think benefits most from the hip hop way of life? how about corporate america?! i say you're no longer hip hop when you make an album that sells a million copies. you are then mainstream!Tone Deft wrote:
hip hop is how you live.
rap is something you do.
hip hop is a culture with 5 or so elements (depending on who you ask and which forum you're ranting on): rapping, break dancing, graffiti, turntablism, beat boxing, some throw black history ('knowledge of self') in there.
Sorry folks, hip-hop is a genre. Is techno how you live? Is pop? Is jazz? This way of thinking is an excuse for people to run around and sound foolish using slang that doesn't sound natural to them and live in some sort of fantasy land.
Hip-hop is a genre.
Rap is a genre. Rap is also something you do.
Hip-hop and Rap are often used as interchangable words for the same genre.
Some fans say they listen to hip-hop to seem elitist over people who use the word rap.
Who cares?
you and mcq 1234 win for most un-informed, I know you are proud of it so carry on.

I have a difficult time believing that alot of people can't understand that the words hiphop can apply to a style of music and also a culture, there are many styles of music that also share their name with that of a culture. I believe that either you don't know the definition of the word culture or just don't know hiphop but (I assume nothing) if you do know the definition of what culture is then why are you denying the existence of a hiphop culture.
really it's kind of peculiar to do that in my opinion.

Ironic that I ran one of the biggest indie hip-hop labels for 6+ years, worked with artists as varied as Atmosphere, Mobb Deep, RJD2, and Pete Rock isn't it? Ironic that I djed for indie hip-hop artists for years, shared stages with Cage, Necro, Cormega, and Doom.
The best thing...none of those folks I mentioned think of hip-hop as a lifestyle. They think of their life as a lifestyle, and hip-hop as the genre of music they fall into.
I am uninformed? Interesting you say that when I know so many of the indie artists personally.
