analog sounding synth with low cpu usage?

Post by twitterytom » Wed Jan 21, 2009 4:09 pm

i'm looking for an analog-like synthesizer that has low cpu usage since i dont like to render my tracks for live performance.

massive and analog both use too much cpu to be able to use them feasibly with my setup.

You are in luck.

The best sounding Virtual Analog synth plug-in also happens to be the lowest in cpu use. Crazy I know!

And that would be Sylenth1.

cool. i'm just testing the demo but having problems assigning my midi controller to parameters in sylenth.

any hints on how to get midi learn working? it works fine for ableton controls

edit: just figured out i can do it in the ableton rendered part of the interface. any way to get it working in the sylenth interface?

I'm having the same problem: I can't get midi learn to work. As for the
manual, all it says is "click midi learn, move a knob on your controller, and
then move a parameter on Sylenth 1 with the mouse. The 'midi learn' button
will now automatically be deactivated again". The latter never happens. I
was wondering if the problem could be that you need to send on midi channel
uno, but the manual doesn't say anything on the subject, and I need
to keep it on a different channel than 1, so as to avoid conflict with the
"Mackie emulation" part of my BCR2000.

Anyway: a huge +1 on Sylenth 1, despite this little problem. Awesome synth
for analogue goodness! :D

+1 on Sylenth1. Z3ta is still good too, as is ZeroVector, which has a fantastic filter.

Good for SubOsc sounds and not bad for screechy filter MS20 type sounds sometimes, but generally too high on cpu for what it does.

If on Mac, I've gotten some pretty analog style squelches from the one truly great free OSX only synth, Automat.

Sylenth the best sounding VA?

You've gotta be kidding me right?

I'd say try massive, Fabfilter Twin or Circle (future audio workshop).

and which one of these aren't massive CPU hogs?

btw NO on circle's sound. Its ok but ridiculous on the CPU for what it does. I own everything on that list and I still think Sylenth is one of the best sounding VAs on the market, and for a cpu hit of about 2% on any given instance.
