Interesting position. Helps to place the users of LE in the system. Definitely not a grumble. I am very happy :D with the product and hold your company in high regard. Just helps me understand how your company views the user base and indeed your LE product line.

Cheers.

It makes me mad because I think they should have included ANYONE who has had 2-3 live lite versions and a full version. The number of lite version I have had is silly...I think it's like 5 or 6 or something, then I paid for Ableton Suite 7 (Edu mind you), oh but I'm still not a "real" or complete customer.

Makes me kinda angry and more annoyed than anything. I was going to upgrade to the regular version of 8 suite, but this has changed my mind completely. There are plenty of hosts available, and I don;t really see all the hoopla in 8 anyways. I will just spend the money with some other company on plug ins I guess.

(p.s. I know this sounds like the start of a flame war or a troll, but it's more of a rant I want the people who work at Ableton to be made aware of. I think their system is flawed and not fair to other long time customers....)

Is an EDU upgrade not considered a full version?

It is, but I didn't make the "special customer list" because it is the first full version I have ever had. Everything before that was a lite version, although I have had like literally 4-5 of them and been an ableton user/customer for years now.

I got to rant and rave and complain like I wanted to. I know, "Just deal with it", it just seems like the method devised was flawed. I mean, I would have had at least said like....ok, if they have had 2 or more lite versions and a full version as well. Lame is all I have to say......

Well I've had EDU licenses since version 4 (although the only one that is listed as EDU is the Live 7 Suite upgrade) and I didn't get a coupon, but whatever, I'd rather they spend time getting this thing out the door.

Why have you had so many Live Lite versions? I can't see the need for more than one.

Buy an audio interface, get live lite....buy a new interface year later, get the newer version of live lite, buy a midi controller and yet the newer version, buy pro tools m-powered and get yet a newer version

I just check my account to be sure and I have had 4 lite versions and now own Suite.

Thanks for the advice on the email....I might send it out. Over all, I just think they should have considered ANYONE who has owned more than 2 or 3 versions of any copy of lite.

The cool stuff, extras, and freebies did help sway my purchases from time to time. I seriously bought certain midi controller etc so I could get the new lite version. The way I see it, I have been a customer for years and have had several versions, plus the most recent and expensive version, which should make me a "long term, appreciated" customer.

This shouldn't sound rude now, as i wrote, it is always hard to set up such rules, and this rule we're talking about was trying to describe long term customers paying a lot of money to follow from full version to full version.

Live Lite comes for FREE with hardware products.

In my opinion we offer really great upgrade deals for Live Lite users.

You bought such a discounted Live Lite to full version upgrade (edit: nope! EDU offer!) - and it was a great price, wasn't it? - but this was the only thing you bought as a customer from us yet. And it was already discounted.

We're happy about this, but how does this turn you into a long-term customer now regarding the explained rule for getting a discount again?

As i said, i really don't want to sound bad here, and 8O is totally right in quoting my text and commenting it: try to send a friendly mail to customercare if you feel something is not fair!
Complaining on the forum does not help at all - talking to us at least opens up a chance!

Cheers,
Dom

Edit: My bad! It was an EDU discount in your case, not the Live Lite upgrade! But this does not change the meaning of this post.

It's cool....I've cooled down a bit, but I'm still not going to buy Live 8 because of this very reason.

Ableton offering EDU discounts is something they choose to do. I teach audio technology at a local college, turning literally 20-30 students a semester on to Ableton live.

I bought other purchases based on them coming with live lite, something that paid off for your company, because the idea I bought 1 thing (the live 7 suite), in actuality I bought every single product you sell... analog, tension, session instruments, operator, etc.

It's ok, really it's not that big of a discount anyways, it just seems lame. I wanted to express that, I assume that people who work at Ableton read their own forums, so I had my little rant and gave my opinion.

Ableton has great products, and is a great company, but this does no justice in defining "long time customers". I just think it is a marketing mistake, and rude to people who have actually been using Ableton and it's products for years, lite or not.
