dont know how much time it will take me toh, i just donwloaded the max 5 demo and i'm still at the print "hello world" phase of the tutorials , lol

max manages sysex with no problem!
and max for live = max/msp/jitter + live object... so :)
yes..cheking out the sxformat and sysexin objects now!
and the funny thing is theres actually an example of how to control the cutoff (via sysex of course) on a (emu) emax sampler
i'm finally starting to figure out how to create a similar device , altough there's still many other things i have to know about max before creating a usable patch, but now that i'm following the tutorials and the online help is becoming easier than i expected...too bad the demo will expire in 27 days or something

Seems like one of the major things Max4Live is going to do is give a lot of people's old hardware a second lease of life...

Myself... well I'll be learning max first... I'm sure that will absorb a good chunk of time.
I got a long way to go before I learn enough to apply the idea. And yes I will be sharing, but if I put in a bunch of time on it and it works really well I'll prolly charge like 10 bux for it.
From a previous thread I undestood that you use a pirated copy of live?
Hope the devices you create and sell for 10 bux don't suffer from being created on cracked software.

Just a thought.
I am perfectly fine with people stealing my stuff, music or otherwise. However, I myself am not going to just hand out a year's worth of work for free. I'll let the pirates pirate and anyone else who feels they can spare a measly 10 bucks give me the 10 bucks. Its not that big of a financial commitment to really warrant vast amounts of piracy. I pirated Live because I have no income so spending $500 bucks on something that was available for free wasn't really an option for me. Again, I fully intend to buy the suite this time around because I can probably do some accounting trickery and I think they deserve it anyway. If people feel the same about my stuff then great, but I'm not going to be pissed off or judge people for stealing it.

Nice one Geez,

If they're well made devices and sell like hot cakes you will have an proper income.......... and also have an idea of what its like NOT to have an income at the same time. Its that kind of mind-set that can launch a carreer big time... 8)

The downside is all the damn tax you have to pay and fact that your hobby is now your profession and feels like work rather than fun.....

Best of luck for 09.

I'm not looking for a fucking career, I'm looking to create a device *I* want to use and if people want to chip in 10 bucks to use it too, great. That's just bonus sushi money.

I hope to build an elaborate (but intuitive for me) control scheme for live.

a) I already paid for MAX and I intend to pay for ableton suite and M4L so I wont be designing the device on any pirated software, so that point is moot. I have never charged a nickle for anything I ever created on pirated software.

b) what part of "I dont care if people rip it off" doesnt make sense to you? IF this thing ever gets created then I'll be charging a measly 10 bucks for it because I think people will want it enough to warrant a contribution. If they dont want to make it and find someone else who has it, then they can go get it from them. I'm not gonna come at them with a fucking pitchfork and a lawyer to demand retribution. But I'm also not gonna spend a year designing something incredibly useful and just hand it out for free like that. I think 10 bucks is fair. what I wont stand for is someone taking it and selling it themselves

c) it IS sharing, but its requiring a donation to my gas fund. I could keep it all to myself and torture people with videos like Tim Exile does with his reaktor setup.

d) this thing doesnt even exist yet. I barely even know enough MAX to find my own asshole. relax.

I'd like to use it because of the coherence of rythm pattern: all in one clip, etc

Oh man, I'm so sorry to inform you that that's the one thing you CAN'T do with Max for Live. You prolly haven't heard, huh? http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?t=105489
