[OT Emergency]Abletonians! We need a dedicated OT forum!

Post by Tom Void » Fri Jan 23, 2009 6:09 pm

I have been scouring the forum for years, but only recently signed up due to the increasing amount of unrelated, far out, non-Ableton related threads in the General forum.

Recent example link

Is there any chance that, in order to clean up some of this mess, and I only mean the topics not even remotely connected to Ableton, and not judging relevant topics with the trademark sarchasm, posted in General, be moved to a dedicated OT forum by moderators.
People might "let loose" a bit more in that Forum department and keep anything from "Youtube silly flick of the day" away from the rest of us (considdering I can only speak for myself atm!)

Cheers and high hopes

If you've been on the forum for that long you should have seen this point being discussed on a number of occasions and every time the discussion gets nowhere.

I'd like to see the forums being re-organised but I'd say there is fuck all chance of that happening. Even if it did everyone would still post complete and utter bollocks all over the place as they do at the moment.

Actually, with the new structure (since beta). "General" is under the headline "User", while Tips & Tricks (for example) is under "Live". Does that mean something? I guess we, the users, could put that in whatever meaning we'd like.

jonny72 I know it's been up and around the block quite a few times, but someone has to *bump* this once in a while, if not for anything else then makin a fool out of myself!

It would definately improve my experience here, and in my naive impression would do too for other users. It is not all of us who are keen on knowing how to suck a ping Pong Ball throug a straw in living colour etc.

Without a doubt it would also be a wee bit more comprehensible for the new users, who might get a bit put off by the sheer amount of Topics to browse through.

general forum.

general topics.

we don't need any new sections just yet. probably will get new forum sections for the share feature and max for live. just a guess though.

in the meantime, don't click on subjects that don't interest you.

also, please kill yourself.

Sounds like a reasonable solution... give me a moment...

If you don't separate OT topics from what's the real business, it's like looking into a mailbox you can't equip with a spam filter.
It gets cluttered with all kinds of useless junk.

I'm here for Ableton related things, but maybe you could send me the [ignore off-topic script] you use, then my world would be a happier, fluffier and not least more pink place.

I bet your studio is all clean and tidy, you hoover it twice a week and its barren of creativity. Leave the forum alone and go write some music in your bleached hoover trench.

really?

what ableton related information are you having a hard time finding here because of all this OT noise happening?

i don't see it.

if an "OT" thread remains at the front of the page here its because the community is interested in talking about it. the community is what generates the on topic content as well.

i'm looking at the forum right now and i see mostly information about the current beta. im reading it and finding it interesting.

you don't have to click on threads that dont interest you.

the OT threads are not so heavy that they are pushing on topic threads off of the front page.

if there are no OT threads, the community goes away because it becomes a boring stale place.

again, what content can't you find?

have you perused the tips and tricks section?

Well I didn't expect this to be anything else then what it is, a discussion with only pro's and con's.
And if I cry wolf, so be it.

I can sort out the topics that are less relevant, I'm not entirely short of thought.
I can relate to both views, and if you like it as it is it's not a big problem to me really.
I was merely thinking out loud about my opinion, and wasn't expecting to be carried on rose petals all through forum glory.

I wish I had a better Hoover though, as that would make my new dream come closer to reality.

Me too. Lets try work it into as many conversations as possible. Are these topics bot generated?

I like it exactly as it is.

For questions and queries or any other general information regarding Ableton Live, there's this thing called a manual. If that's not enough, these are actual lessons built into the program itself. There has to be discussion on other topics otherwise this place would become exceedingly dull. </sarkey badger mode>

This comes up all the time, thankfully, over the years this forum's been up, the only thing that seems to have changed is the occasional appearance of Dom, wagging a virtual finger at foul mouthed cunts like me, (although he's actually never given me a ticking off, cos I'm usually good and a bit quiet)

Long may the OT threads continue.
