Sound Card for laptop

Wondering what kind of hardware I would need to for my laptop in order to cue with headphones.

A very cheap temp solution is all I'm looking for now.

You just need to ensure it has 4 output channels (= 2 x stereo pair) to have a main out and a headphone out.

Edit: read around for recommendations on the General forum - that's where this kind of question is often discussed. If you post asking there, be sure to say how much you want to spend and anything else you need like microphone input, etc...

The Maya 44 shares outputs 1&2 with the headphone's output. You can assign 'Cue' to 1&2 and 'Master' to 3&4 to bring the click or click track on the headphones and the rest on the monitors.

I use an m-audio conectiv it has 2 stereo pair outs, 2 stereo pair ins and a headphone out that is mixable between the outputs. It also has split cue. It's not the least expensive but it's definitely not the most expensive either. You can mono all of the ins/outs inside ableton if you want to use it as like 4 channels.. or because ableton has good routing you can make a bus for things that need stereo image and then mono out 2 other channels so you can plug into a sound board. (ie a non dj mixer). The build quality is great and I'm glad I paid a little extra because the maya 44 looks very cheaply built.

Stable drivers, never had a problem with it.

There is also an ExpressCard version for newer laptops.

The good thing with those is that they fit into the card slot of your laptop saving space...
