FINALLY, A BELIEVABLE SOUNDING BRASS VSTi!

Post by Abzurd » Sat Jan 24, 2009 8:26 am

MY GOODNESS! Have you seen the demo for Mr. Sax & Mr. Trumpet from Sample Modeling.

This is the 1st app I have EVER seen which believably (80% anyway) emulates a sax & or a trumpet.

Sad 2 say but their even better then the Ableton instrument library.

I'm very impressed.

Ummm, have you used it or are you judging this on advertising? All the apps the supposedly do this also have very good marketing videos etc...

The trumpet sounds pretty good, still not sure about the sax though going on that demo video. It sounded ok for the first 30 seconds or so but after that revealed itself through it's unchangingness.

FWIW, I thought it sounded pretty good.

It's perfect for the way in which I would use it.

It is no better than Brass by Arturia, which is physically modelled and has been on the market for nearly 3 years.

I demoed it and used it in several recordings last year. The way it responds like a real trumpet to intonation and pitch changes and velocity changes is also very convincing.

The trumpet is awesome on that too. Ditto the trombone. The saxophone is similarly less convincing.

Nothing truly sounds like a saxophone, but a saxophone.

I always though synthesized or sampled brass sounds were unusable until I recently got hold of a midi guitar.

Once you get the pitch bend set up right, it's amazing how brass and woodwind sounds come to life when played from a guitar fretboard.

i use the trumpet with my windcontroller and it´s one of the very few plugins which are good enough for really convincing solo parts!

only alternatives are wallanderinstruments.com and synful.com

Synful is fantastic.

I jam regularly with a bunch of people, one of whom plays the trumpet. Just for fun, it played synful trumpet along with him one time and I was mimicking the stuff he was playing and it sounded pretty damn close. It's all about the expression with that kind of instrument. Synful has very realistic slurs and note changes. The new synful 2.5 also introduced a new french horn which uses improved modelling and expression. All of the instruments are going to get the same update as the french horm soon as well.

I don't know leedsquietman Aturia still sounds like a keyboard. Maybe cause it's played like a keyboard by keyboardists not thinking like horn players. The attack sounds weird on everything I've heard. But man I really like the variety of playing styles they offer. Haven't seen any program offer that.

And OF COURSE nothing sounds 100% like a sax or a trumpet but a real sax or a trumpet folks.

Melodyne and good samples is the only appropriate answer here

Yep Geezus I agree. When Melodyne comes out with the new Direct Note Access the whole game will be changed. They're even gonna have to rewrite the laws on sample usage.

DNA wouldn't do a thing for ya here... except maybe in overtones as all of the instruments you guys want to replicate are monophonic.
