I have this kind of idea too...
making very simple devices, low CPU-phageous etc.

I mean simplify some already existing device like delay, filter etc..

I thought that was very clear from the beginning:

EVERYTHING will be in there, including java, externals, serial output, udpsend/udpreceive...

indeed, if m4L = max/msp/jitter + live objects + Live integrated ... ok, it will provide all that we can imagine!

... just dream on the release day .. to buy :)

Hmm, this is similar to the philosophy of those people who break into your home to steal a $500 TV, because, after all, they couldn't afford to buy one, and they really needed a TV.

That's magnanimous of you to be so free with your stuff. You wouldn't mind, then, if we borrow your car and forget to return it?

I'll let the pirates pirate and anyone else who feels they can spare a measly 10 bucks give me the 10 bucks. Its not that big of a financial commitment to really warrant vast amounts of piracy. I pirated Live because I have no income so spending $500 bucks on something that was available for free wasn't really an option for me. Again, I fully intend to buy the suite this time around because I can probably do some accounting trickery and I think they deserve it anyway. If people feel the same about my stuff then great, but I'm not going to be pissed off or judge people for stealing it.

One of the things I want to do is dependent on the hardware and instruments I use, but nevertheless it would involve recording a performance of my Stick into Looper while simultaneously recording a MIDI clip of the same performance via my MIDI pickup. Then to use the data from the MIDI clip as a template for slicing the recorded audio performance in real time. Then the slices could be triggered to play back via a randomizer or by pre-configured note sequences stored in a [coll] or something. I have been trying to get to this point in Max alone and basically where I am is just in getting the MIDI sequence recorded and processed. That part will be much easier when all you have to do is record to a MIDI clip. I think like many things about M4L, not having to worry about the sequencing aspect of things is going to allow more time and effort to be directed towards the core concepts.

The Steppophonic Looperformer

Post by Per Boysen » Mon Jan 26, 2009 11:22 pm

I will build the world's first Steppophonic Looperformer. It is a step pattern sequencer driven real-time sampler/looper. I believe it will make a smashing team with Live 8's new Looper. I posted a detailed description of the instrument at http://www.perboysen.com/ for those who might be interested.

So I guess you didn't get any takers to make it for you?

Not yet. I'm just saying that if I'll have to I will program the bitch myself I will do it - but I'd appreciate someone else to do it. Someone that likes programming. I'm sort of more into inventing those things and making noise with them than programming them. Just the way my brain is wired up ;))

The first thing I look forward to implementing with Max for Live is the ability to accept MIDI Program Change commands to control patch changes on a rack, perhaps via the Chain Select Ruler. This is something that I feel must be conquered.

I'm not interested anymore in using VSTs. I sense Ableton is becoming my only aural tool, but this wall (inability to select sound patches via my keyboards) must be broken down. Without this, all the rest is mere bells and whistles to me.

I must have the ability to change sounds on the fly from presets for my Live orchestration and improvisational composition process, and I don't want to use any VSTs at all anymore.

I am now going to see if I can download the documentation for Max/MSP and see what can be done.

Thanks,
GDR
