Question Operator Live 8 ...

Post by emma » Wed Jan 28, 2009 8:30 am

... if I understand that right ,you can save selfmade osc curves in operator as sampler files . Can I reload sampler files (samples) into the osc section of operator ? If not , how cool would be that - just like the Nord Wave !

You can! Just drag and drop. Although, they have to be in .ams format (meta files). There was a "how to" posted somewhere on here... I'll see if I can dig it up.

^That's the one, although the links don't work anymore.

Here's the updated links:

Meta Files: Uncovering the .ams format, Part 1

Meta Files: Uncovering the .ams format, Part 2

Meta Files: Uncovering the .ams format, Part 3

There was also a post from Robert Henke a while back, complete with a link to a waveform generator that he made in Max/MSP that would export your work as .ams. That thread seems to be long gone though.

I have this Monolake (henke) ams generator utility. It used to be on Monolake's site but is no longer available from there. However, I did manage to find it somewhere else, just can't remember where. Just done a search but can't find it. You need to have Max/Msp or a runtime (free) version to run the ams utility.

I expect it has been made unavailable as this is kind of now integrated into the forthcoming Ableton 8.

Can I help in any way?

You don't need the utility you draw the wave by individually drawing the level of every partial (partials are the individual sinewave harmonics that together make up the waveform) up to 64 of them, and more importantly: it works very well, lots of beautiful "digital" textures that you can then modulate and filter of course.
