Don't get me wrong, I love Lotus's music, but what's the big deal about that as a performance?
I caught him a few months ago here in chicago, and 90% of his set was other people's music (the track linked above isn't even him, it's soundmurderer).
seriously, we can all aim a little higher for live shit.

I'm not talking about him artisticly or judging his music, i'm talking about how he performs. when people talk about dreaded laptop performances theyIllum wrote:Don't get me wrong, I love Lotus's music, but what's the big deal about that as a performance?

tend to leave him out of bad examples because he performs more like those using beatmachines than those that use laptops... it's a very small difference that I feel has gone a long way for him. he's obviously overdoing but most of the crowds he plays for prefer it to the look of i'm doing sound designing on stage right in front of you type of performances.... just an obvservation.
I thought it was the Soundmurder Refix of FlyLo's Track "Secrets" taken from L.A. EP 2 x 3.Illum wrote:Don't get me wrong, I love Lotus's music, but what's the big deal about that as a performance?

"live drums, live drums ya'll" - what a chode
but i'm not pointing to this to put him down, i think he has a unique understanding because of his background of the fact that there is a thin line between laptop love and laptop hate. he understands how to assist the audience in navigating the terrain
weak.

even if you just want to stick with mpc players, there's better out there, you've seen them too.

Lookin back at the FlyLo clip, I can't help but thinking that it sounds real tight, and yet, everyone's always talking about latency using Live vs MPC. No doubt MPC has less latency, but damn, I sure wouldn't be able to tell listening to Fly Lo jam.
That Exile clip was incredible. His skills are incredible. Really digging his Radio LP and his remix on L.A. EP 2 X 3.

Ableton’s engineers are hard
at work developing code that will allow our software to predict the future, but we don’t
anticipate having this available until at least the next major release.

Moody - I'd post Buddy Rich in response, the best ever, IMO.
