You can't put all the blame on banks when 90% of the population live beyond their means and run everything from groceries to holidays to petrol on their credit cards. Not to mention the thousands who were lulled into schemes to buy £800,000 or $800,000 homes when they could really only afford to buy property at a quarter the price, and now have no way [huge surprise] to pay their mortgages.
Problem is, we live in buy-now, pay-later society that strives for material wealth and materialistic possessions above and beyond everything else.

All that's happening now is that the scales are balancing once again and we are coming back down to earth with a reality check.
