There's a load of bollocks thrown around about both platforms, when in fact there is very little difference between them in terms of performance or stability. I support macs and pcs at work, I use a pc at home cos I'm not prepared to pay a premium price for a mac. You can make music using either, but a mac will cost a bit more.

here is what I've found out recently...

if someone is into IT, maybe he will understand it better than me, but holy shit, there's something that even ASIO doesn't have! not to mention other drivers... Totally different API & audio routing better than in any MS system, which in theory makes better use of audio apps and hardware.

The refurbished option is highly recommended... you save a bit of money and it still has the year's warranty. Comes in a plain brown box, which is actually quite nice (and less poncy than the original packaging!).

I've gone this way twice personally.

i got my first mac a few weeks ago..

These threads always end up the same haha.
I run Live on my main PC at home, but i also have a macbook pro - both are great and will get the job done. I actually prefer using the PC but it's what I grew up with and its just my preference.
Get what you can afford.
If yer heart is set on a mac then do what the others said and get a refurb or go the second hand route (my second hand MBP only cost me €900)

I'd second what folks have said about the adjustment period. There's a diff philosophy behind simple things like the way windows should be sized, launching apps, etc. I really didn't think OSX was all that special and actually found it kind of irritating for several months. Now when I'm on Windows at work I want it to work like OSX.
