you hit the nail on the head right there

poor sid will be turning in his grave at what johnny rotten has done last few years
the butter thing sounds pretty far out - I haven't seen it, but the whole notion of Johnny Rotten doing ads for any kind of foodstuff seems pretty weird

I think young Sid would maybe turn in his grave, but 51 year old sid would probably just say what Lydon said to his agent: "how much does it pay?"

in fact even young Sid might have thought "how much smack will it buy me?"

I used tho think Jonny Rotten was really cool when i was growing up.......Until i realised he's a thick Racist who's sold out
Sold out yeah, but hardly racist, he's largely responsible for convincing various record companies to sign any number of reggae artists. Big promoter of the music back in the day.

why do people worship smackheads?
Hell, there is a shit load of great musicians who have had heroin addictions over the years.

John Coltrane, Michael Stipe, Kurt Cobain, Janis Joplin............

People don't idolise these musicians because they took heroin.

I find the comment a little unfair and quite discriminatory.

It's the last bit that people who live fast and die young have a problem with :D

Good looking famous corpses could lead to necrophylia....

Apparently I was told by a freind the other day that in the UK necrophyplia was not illegal...

....So I looked it up... And it is indeed most illegal, only with one small loop-hole:

The law sates that if the party is not aware that the person they are 'rooting' is dead then they are not officaly breaking the law (Any married forum users may be fammiliar with making love to a 'corpse' )

This lead my thoughts further....

If you were 'on the job' and your partner 'passed away' mid-way through....lets be honest....you'd have to finish wouldnt you?

Slightly off topic but has anyone heard Jeffrey Lewis - 12 Crass songs?

And back on topic again:

Yes that's right, punk is dead
It's just another cheap product for the consumers head
Bubblegum rock on plastic transistors
Schoolboy sedition backed by big time promoters
CBS promote the Clash
Ain't for revolution, it's just for cash
Punk became a fashion just like hippy used to be
Ain't got a thing to do with your or me
Movements are systems and systems kill
Movements are expressions of the public will
Punk became a movement cos we all felt lost
Leaders sold out and now we all pay the cost
Punk narcissism was a social napalm
Steve Jones started doing real harm
Preaching revolution, anarchy and change
Sucked from the system that had given him his name
Well I'm tired of staring through shit stained glass
Tired of staring up a superstars arse
I've got an arse and crap and a name
I'm just waiting for my fifteen minutes fame

Spirit will never die though - trace it through the ages or through music - Prodigy, Rage, rave, EBN, Flashmob, Free Party Scene, etc etc.

The product called punk is as irrelevant as the product called Sid Vicious (though if you look into it people around him said he was nothing like the marketted caricature). Its about people doing what they want no matter what anyone says! So

Punk is dead. Long Live Punk!

Gavvers,

nice one...not heard the Jeffrey Lewis 12 Crass songs, will check out when I'm not a work...

Also on topic: A little ditty by some old band called 'Flux of Pink Indians':

"Take Heed"

the music business got really scared
when punks created their own alternative system
one that was honest and really cared
so they set out to destroy what punk had created
by dividing those involved
choosing cult names and hatred
the gutter press said punks should spit and fight
and the puppet punks were fooled alright
they began to sniff aerosol and tubes of glue
because the paper said that's what real punks do
like spitting on bands covering them in shit
even though they knew if they were playing, they wouldn't like it
the promoters wanted to put a stop
to the cheap gigs bands arranged on their own
so they introduced more lies and once the seeds were sown
the puppet punks began to smash up halls
believing they were having a real ball
but the destruction meant nothing at all
they were just dancing to the tunes
the big businessmen called
very soon bands couldn't afford to do their own gigs
and the promoters had won
they got their own way
protecting their halls with bouncers
they decided which bands could play
and best of all they controlled the price that we all have to pay
punk belongs to the punks
not the businessmen
they need us, we don't need them
punk will never be dead
as long as some of us refuse to be led
the rip-off merchants were quick to cash in
and the puppet punks parted with their hard earned cash
to buy the exploiter's rip-off trash
unable to see that these people only sell shit
as long as the people are willing to buy it.

I still love it when non-punks dont get anywhere near the point! Even afte 30+ years!!!

Also very proud to be from the same manor as Subhumans, Organised Chaos, Culture Shock, The A-Heads, Citizen Fish, Smart Pils, Amebix and the Hippy Slags and many, many more...

Not one 'sell out' band amongst them.

(Check out my spazzer page for a crass/Hardstyle lullaby called 'Scream Baby' I made for an old punk mate thats now into his hard dance. Not to everyones tastes but thats a bonus)

I was really surprised recently to hear John Lennon was on smack for a while and that's what the song cold turkey was about - for some reason I never knew that, I guess he always seemed too lively and 'present' to be a smacky

Hell yeah, John was really drug f*cked for a while there in the 70's.

He lay in that bed with Yoko taking a shit load of barbs & smack.

On the bedside table was a big bowl of what looked like smarties/m&m's.

Different colours for up or down to 'stabilise' the mood.

A special guy would drop in daily to look after their daily needs.

Strange days indeed.

Back to the butter... I do like the butter! :D

Coincidentally, on BBC Radio Five Live this morning they were doing a business news round up and they mentioned that sales of Country Life butter have gone UP since John Lydon has been advertising it!

Link to a Guardian article, with a video on the site for those who have been lucky enough not to see him prancing around like he's in a Blur video...
