OT: LOST
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that I don't believe the Island (and this the black smoke thing) is NOT a sentient being. I think that we'll get pretty deep into science fiction here, but at the end of the day, there will be some reasonably bullshitty scientific explanation for all of it.
Like tachyon pulses on Star Trek TNG...they used those to explain EVERY single space-time-continuum episode!!!

From the future or? Interesting thought!Aequitas123 wrote:I thought it was nano-particles but i'm not sure if thats been refuted or not.Mehalic wrote:I'm still unclear about the black smoke monster. What the hell was that, and was the electromagnetic fence that was put up, put up to keep that out and why.
Abes, we need a LOST area in the forum - LOL!
to bring it back to music, I think I was reading somewhere that a lot of the synth sounds come from Spectrasonics Atmosphere - not sure how valid that is though. I did hear a pretty wicked breaks remix of the LOST theme though (I'll try and dig it up)... here it is:

which reminds me of Ecko (I liked his character) - was pretty crazy when Locke saw the plane that was carrying Ecko's brother....
Anyways, I'm all over the place here... I'm out...

Now about that four toe statue...gotta be Sawyer.
If my memory serves correct, in "The Lie" episode, Sayer stepped on an arrow chip and pulled it from his toe. Chances are that his toe will become infected and requires amputation. Carlton Cuse also stated that both time travel and Sawyer will play integral parts to this season's plotline.
My guess is that Sawyer travels back into the past and does something...deserving of The Others(maybe) erecting a statue in his honor.

That time travel theory thing someone posted a link to is interesting, but there seemed to be some pretty big flaws in it. What's with the comments about a future time line where the plane doesn't crash, I don't remember seeing that.
There is a Lost forum site and a Lost wiki site I've visited before. I'd strongly suggest that you don't go to either of those sites as you can very easily end up losing half a day at a time reading up on all the facts, details you missed and theories.
If you thought that time travel theory thing was good the forum and wiki sites will blow you away, there are far better theories proposed and discussed on them. It really makes your head hurt though.

you'd think that if the statue was about Sawyer, that they would have made a bigger deal about him hurting his toe. After all its been quite a while and they haven't mentioned it. It would have healed by now.Sleep Tyght wrote:

I would think it was another of his machinations to get everyone where he wanted them. It forced Kate to leave and eventually wind up at the dock. That's how Ben does it, I would imagine he orchestrated the whole "threat" against Sayid and Hurley as well.Aequitas123 wrote:not a bad episode. i dont know why Ben was trying to steal Aaron. doesn't make sense.

I've been discussing this with a lot of fellow Lost watchers.
Do you remember that horrendous Season 3 episode where Hurley found the Dharma van in the jungle and pretty much NOTHING happened the entire episode? Well.....
...Except for Hurley and co. finding Roger "Workman" in the van. Didn't seem like much of anything at first until we later realized Mr Workman was none other than Ben's father. Such a trivial incident led to a monumental revelation wouldn't you say? Or how about when Locke first wiggled his toe on the beach when the plane first crashed? Didn't seem like much of anything until....
Well you know how that story played out.
I too have to wonder why hasn't Sawyer been limping or at least saying something...ANYTHING about his foot. There HAS to be a reason why he stepped on that arrow chip. I think Sawyer's the only island castaway still running around barefoot. Maybe the writers showed his foot getting hurt to throw us off about Alpert having four toes...
But I'm not buying it. Not just yet. I guess we have another 13 episodes to find out if I'm right or wrong.
