PsYkeR wrote:Hi gjm! I am indeed running the Nvidia Geforce 8800GT Graphics card; these cards and or similar seem to be consistent with people having the same problem. I just find it hard to swallow that a graphics card could be the source of the issue? What are the repercussions of having this card?
I also was in disbelief. However, removing the card and going to a 7000 series solved ALL my problems. I have noticed that people with the 8000 series cards can get away with adjusting the Hardware Acceleration slider, as mentioned in your other thread. Try that as a first option. But, for what ever reason, the 8k and 9k nvidia cards cause problems. In Live it was absolutely crippling. In Reaper it wasn't so much, but it did take its tole. Have you DL'd the DPC latency tool and monitored your system for 1/2 hr or so? Borrow another video card or something, and just give it a try. I too have a P4 laptop, and running the same programs give me zero problems. My non Texas Instrument FW PCI card was NOT the problem. Changing the graphics card to a 7000 series was the solution.

My problems were with Lives GUI, clicking on buttons and drop down menu's. People kept telling me that the Alesis drivers were poor. I was in contact with Alesis and worked through all of their suggestions without a satisfactory result. All things pointed to the graphics card.

Stay in touch with this one. I'd like to follow your progress.

Cheers. Greg.

It probably won't work with a 9000 series card, at least not for my GeForce 9400. I had to replace it. 8000 series cards should respond to this though.

Hey guys... Ok, I have some developments to!!!

My problem was defo down to IRQ conflicts... PCI slots 2 & 3 on my mobo were being shared with USB and other things. (I dont fully understand it!) My firewire care was plugged into slot 2...

I removed firewire card from pci slot 2 and usb expansion from slot 1. After rebooting, there was nothing showing being used in pci slot 1 in bios. So i installed the m-audio drivers, then rebooted with the PCI m audio card in slot 1.......

HAPPY DAYS!!!!! We spent hours last night putting together loops for our new set - not a single crash... an Ableton loads much much quicker.

When I have time, I'll sit and learn about IRQ settings. I dont think I'll be able to use PCI slots 2 & 3 for anything to do with Ableton (not that I need them atm)

F.Y.I. I'm using a geforce 9600 series. I'll check the hardware accelerator setting, but so far, for hours last night, not a single crash. I'm emailing over my log file to Jok to look through just incase anything else is spotted.

Ok, it is Happy days for now....... only thing left is to decide on what M Audio PCI card to get and sell my Presonus Firebox....

Glad you found a resolution leejones, but i must say i am quite surprised that we had two completely different solutions for the same symptoms! Either way, this is awesome, I am LOVING Live and can't wait to upgrade to version 8!
