Puremagnetik Releases Microtron™ Tape 1

This first tape in the Microtron™ series contains Brass, 8 Voice Choir and String Section. This collection of sounds, including all of their imperfections, analog tape quality and subtle nuances have been expertly recorded through a Neumann U47 Microphone and Reeves Custom 50 Amplifier for a full and rich tone.

The Ableton Live version of Microtron™ Tape 1 contains 3 individual multisampled instruments and a full "tape" instrument that has similar sound blending functionality as found on the original M400. Microtron™ Tape 1 for Ableton Live comes packed with 50 professionally performed Live Clips.

The Kontakt version of Microtron™ Tape 1 includes all 3 multisampled sounds complete with effects and a custom KSP user interface. Logic and Kontakt versions both include a collection of 50 professionally performed Apple Loops.

Downloaded and ready to install. Thanks, Micah! 8)

This will do nicely for now in the absence of a Live 8 Beta...

Noob question. I've purchased a few micropacs through quick buy but this is a must have. Once I subscribe, do I just download the pack or do I pay 12 dollars on top of the subscription cost? I might as well subscribe, I've picked up 4 or 5 in the last 2 months alone. Great work.

Sorry, another question, will all those micropacks be useable with Live 8 when it is released? Or will there be a roll over period where they will be upgraded to 8? Thanks a ton.

Good question. The answer is yes, all current Live 7 PM packs will open just fine in Live 8. Puremagnetik is continuously working closely with Ableton to ensure that all of our sound content meets the latest compatibility standards - so updates are to be expected.

Do you do requests?

I'd quite like to see PureMagnetik do a donk machine. Like in that video.

Check the Puremagnetik forum jonny72 - there's a suggestion box that we actually take a lot of ideas from!

Even if the suggestion is for a donk machine?

I am actually being serious, it could work well. A donk style bass instrument, preferably with the parameters having stupid made up names (so its a proper donk machine), along with a good selection of midi files or clips with donk basslines (its not just a single offbeat pattern, there is normally quite a bit of variation).

Or even better, do it as one of those instrument racks that has patterns built in which all play the same bass sound but you can turn parts on and off to change the pattern being played. Does that make sense?

I did post on your forum before, asking you get rid of that damn horizontal scrolling box at the top of every page that my cursor gets stuck on every time when I try to scoll down the page with two fingers. The bloody thing is still there and it is still really annoying.

Ha. We had a small huddle about that at NAMM. You're right. It is annoying ;)

Just so you know, it's on our radar.

I used Ableton sampler to multisample 6 banks from a friends mellotron 400 (cello, church organ, choir, strings, brass, flute) several months ago.
We plugged the mellotron from its 6.3 jack into an Audio Kontrol 1 (sampling @24bit 48khz) and de magged and cleaned all the heads beforehand.

I then spotted the M tron pro from g force and thought i would get it for the additional sounds and compare with what we had done. I was suprised to find that the sound quality was very slightly damped in comparison to the rich sound from the original mellotron that i had captured from sampler. They were the same samples from the tape rack we had because of the distinctive notes, particularly the low cello notes. (NB I do like the m tron and do not wish to come across as critical)

I'm interested to know why a microphone has been used in this case and not the jack (surely this would give a better result?).

We did record direct. We actually recorded direct and through 2 additional amps! In the end we decided to go with the U47 through the Reeves as it was only slightly colored from the direct signal to (IMO) its benefit. Due to our download size constraints we opted for only this version to be made available.

All mellotrons (and tapes) are different. I think this particular one sounds brighter and more resonant than other libraries (including the M-tron) that I've heard. This is really a unique sound set. For those that have it, you can get some great effects by holding down a key at lower velocities and hearing the tape slightly off the head with all the pops and inconsistencies. Try putting a delay or some long decay reverbs off the end of it - great for dub ;)
