Computer completely locks up with Live and Fireface

Post by carlv » Sun Feb 08, 2009 7:15 pm

Hi all,

in the last week my macbook has locked up completely (no error messages, no crash, just completely non-responsive to all input) three times. The common denominator is that I was using Live with my Fireface 400 connected. Once while I was trying to burn a track I'd just rendered in itunes (nothin playing in Live at the time), once with a heavy CPU set, and again with just my guitar running through and playing along with the built-in metronome.

Once I force my computer to power off and restart it, there are no console messages for at least 15 minutes before the crash, although the last one recorded on the most recent time was

[0x0-0x42042].com.ableton.live[669]: No custom exception handler installed.

I've seen that message from a different address several times without noting any lockups though.

Also, when I restart, I can't use Spotlight because it's rebuilding the indices, which is the weirdest part of the crash, I've never seen that before.
I'm on 10.5.5 still and have the 2nd newest Fireface firmware. I was thinking of upgrading them and see if it goes away but I'd like to hear any other suggestions first.

Hi Carlv,

please contact [email protected]
Include your log.txt (user/library/preferences/ableton/live and your crash-log (might be useful, even though the freezes you experienced will of course not be documented: user/library/logs/crash-reporter/ live xx xx xx crash).
Do you only experience these freezes with the Fireface, or have you had problems while using the internal soundcard as well?

Best,
Jörg
