I missed it, why was it a big deal with the music going iiiiiIIIIIIIIIII!!!!
I guess you're talking about the bit where Danielle introduces herself to Jin.

The big deal being that it is Danielle when she first got to the island.
Was it not even more a big deal that it appeared they arrived in the present day (clothes, equipment etc they had) rather than 20 or so years ago... or did i completely get that wrong? I was assuming there that Rousseaus party had done a time jump at some point (hence the sickness).
No suggestion that Danielle and her ship mates ever did a time jump, just that Jin and the group (Desmond, Charlotte et al) have jumped back to when Danielle first got to the island.

There has never been any real information of the sickness that Danielle talks about, there has been references to similar illnesses but not many details on them or anything to suggest they are one and the same thing.

Everyone who is time jumping has their clothes and equipment jump with them (which obviously included the canoe). I know that is a bit stupid but that's the way it is, Daniel says so.

So why did the french folks have what looked like modern radios/walkie talkies and clothes and that life raft they were in looked ultra modern... bearing in mind they were supposed to have landed on that island 16 years (i think ? ) prior to the plane crash.

I haven't read anything to suggest otherwise. Plus, the main group definitely jumped and found what must have been the wreckage from Danielle's ship. Double plus, it looked like Jin had been on that piece of metal for a while and out in the sun (due to the sunburn) which suggests he had been jumping with the others.

Besides, they would have had pretty modern equipment in 1988 or whenever they crashed, it wasn't like it was 60 years ago or anything.

Yes. There will be a total of 13 minutes of close-up face shots accompanied by Omnisphere presets. Hurley will say "dude" 18 times and disagree with whatever the rest of the cast has planned. Brilliant.

Should I have started with "spoiler alert!"? :)

It will also be revealed that Locke is every woman and his own mother.

Sayid, Ben, and Jack take Sun and Kate back to Sun's hotel room and gang bang them while Hurley and Aaron eat pizza and M&M's and watch.

I gave up on it completely about halfway into the second series, the title of the program is a direct reference to the scriptwriters imho.

hmm, odd, i thought it was very dull and couldn't see the interest other people had in it until it was about midpoint through the 2nd series. Up until that point it was dull run of the mill balls. From the 3rd series onwards i think its blatantly clear that they know exactly what they are doing and where they are going. Lost is in no way complicated or deep in anyway. The reason people dont know whats going on or why things relate is because the writers haven't told us yet. Lost is a fun ride, i could quite happily have it run for a decade.

I think it depends how you watch it - and I mean either episodically as it airs or waiting to gorge on full series box-sets/torrents. The latter is far more entertaining and rewarding if you have the patience.

I watched the first series when it came out and got a bit tired of trying to keep track of the plot shifts towards the end. Then I lost touch with it for various reasons and have only lately been plugged back in to the continuing story.

I think it's a great show - it has its flaws and shortcomings, but it's always entertaining and thought-provoking in equal measure. I'm hoping that the writers steer us closer to the Solaris-like nature of the Island in the rest of season 5, rather than the top secret military angle they're flirting with...or something risible like alien involvement.

I think what turned me off it was seeing the smackhead actor that was also in the Lord of the rings (can't recall his name) on a chat show talking about how the scriptwriters didn't have an ending and had been told to drag it out cos the ratings were so good.

What has that got to do with anything? The same thing can be said about pretty much every single series on TV, they will keep it going until the ratings are crap at which point they'll come up with an ending.

Besides, they announced some time ago (well over a year) that it was going to run for 6 seasons so they've had an ending lined up for some time.

Didn't you think he may have been pulling their leg a little?

Anyway, even if the writers are improvising occasionally and coming up with new ideas as they go, then working them in to the back story...I don't see what's wrong with that if you can make it cohere in a satisfying way.
