[amo] Please put this Live PC feature into the Mac version

I had mentioned this sometime back in regards to Live 7 and I am really missing this on the Mac side. In Live 7, 8 etc. on the PC one can select a portion of a clip by holding ALT+dragging without having to unfold the actual track. What this means is for example I have a 8 bar loop where I want to cut, move or copy 2 measure from. On the PC I can press ALT and then select the 2 measures of the clip that I want and just cut, move or copy them all without having to unfold the track. I cannot do it like this on the Mac (pressing CMD does something just not the same!).

This is such a great workflow enhancement because I don't always want to have to unfold a track just to select a few bars to edit it. It would be so nice if Live could be.... more consistent (my favorite word lately).

I consider this a bug since the PC version does it and the Mac version doesn't do it.

unless I don't understand what you mean, Cmd on Mac does exactly what you describe for PC..

No it doesn't, on the Mac when holding CMD it always starts from the beginning of the clip, where on the PC you can start on measure 2, 3, or whatever on the clip and make a selection. CMD on the Mac does not work like ALT on the PC! On the Mac I cannot easily select measure 4 and 5 of a 8 measure clip for example. Believe me I wish you were right!

it does not always start at the beginning of the clip but at the position of either the insert marker or the start position of the previous selected time range..

so the feature is there though a bit crippled..
ideally you should always be able to start selecting at any given position, ignoring previous selections/insert marker positions..

That's what I meant, and that's why I reported it as a bug. Compared to how it works on the PC, it's pretty much useless or like you said crippled (plus it doesn't seem to snap to the grid either). On the PC it just works better with less clicks and less confusion. I and as you can see many others would like this to work on the Mac as well.

Oh, this exists in the PC-version? I've often wondered why one has to open the track before being able to select parts of a clip.+1

I was just comparing this function between Live 7 and Live 8. In Live 7 it at least did snap to a grid, where in Live 8 it doesn't always snap to the grid even though, snap to grid is enabled!!!! Also, this function was less crippled in Live 7 than it is in Live 8 since one could start a selection and then either drag the beginning marker or the end marker to the correct position. The way it works on the PC is the way it should work on the Mac too, it's that simple!
