Hi,
I have used ableton for a while now on pc without a single problem, but yesterday when I installed it on my new mac book pro, I noticed that within about 30 minutes of usage my hard disk space had gone down to 0kb and thus the whole thing crashed. It seemed that very track I dragged onto the stage was being converted into a wav and saved to my macs hd in the decoding cache folder.
Unless I am doing something really stupid, does it not seems a bit strange that for every mp3 I want to listen to, its creating a wav copy on my hard drive. In a live set I may want to have about 100 tunes ready to go and this would total far more than most would have in space hard drive space!!
I have warped the tunes, and then clicked save, which creates the .asd file fine, but when I drag the tune into a new live set, it still creates a wav in the decoding cache folder and I still have to wait for the wave to build. The warp information stays saved.
Please please someone help, I am desperate to start using ableton on my mac
Decoding cache keeps filling up till ableton crashes on mac
Hi there,
Live converts every new MP3 you drag into Live to a WAV file and stores the WAV into a 'decoding cache' folder on your disk (on mac AND pc).
To avoid that your disk runs full go to Live's preferences -> file/folder, and set the 'minimum free space' to e.g. 500MB or 1GB.
Here you can also set a max. cache size or to cleanup the cache by clicking the 'cleanup' button.
If you want to place the 'decoding cache' folder on an external hard disk, set the path for 'temporary folder' to a location on your external hard disk.
Best,
Michael
