Finally a new song - yay for Japanese instruments!

Post by vlantis » Thu Feb 12, 2009 6:14 am

Hey fellas, it's been too long. I lost all musical interest after playing my gig in America. It seems like I'd been wanting to play live for so long (three years!) and after that I didn't have anything else to drive me along.

I tried to force myself to make a beat driven Nintendo song, but that didn't work out too well. Right, so I dusted off my Sanshin (a Japanese banjo from Okinawa) and made a "pretty" song with that (and got some guitar in there, too). It's called "Parachute Hanahook"

And not that you can understand them, but the lyrics were written on the beach at 8 in the morning. Deep!

It sounds pretty much like my other songs. I still can't not put vocoders in everything I do. Let me know what you think!

Just thought I'd let you know that I've added an outro to the new song. Please let me know what you think of it (the song or the outro specifically).

Changed a few other things, but not anything people will notice.

I like Eating Apples. Everything fits well. Vocoder stuff is good. Is that a vocoder in the early vocals, or just two vocal tracks?

Thanks for the comment!

There's two tracks. One of normal vocals and the other of the same vocals run through a vocoder.

In case your wondering, it's about a guy I heard about who taught in a Japanese Jr. High school and got TWO girls pregnant.

This post serves two purposes. One is to shamelessly bump my post back to the top the other is to let you fella's know that I'll have a new one up sometime in the very near future.

I've got 7 of 10 songs finished for my next album. It sounds like it's going to be quite a bit different than my last one. A lot less bleeps and bloops and all that. A new family member is on his or her way, so hopefully I can get it done before my free time is completely lost for the foreseeable future.

I'm also going to try comment much more regularly on other people's stuff. It's really great to get comments on your music, so I'd figure I should spread the love a bit.

Anyway, if you've read this far, thanks for your time.

Thanks so much for the comments! I used a high melody because there was so much mid range stuff, I didn't want it to get muddled. I'll try putting it an octave lower and see how it sounds.

Yes, I COMPLETELY understand about the vocoder. The problem is that I can't sing and live in Japan with no musical friends. I know that I am overdoing it, but it's better than the alternative. My next track actually has some normal vocals.

UPDATE: I tried out a lower melody and it didn't really pack any punch. Probably due to the fact I'm using free vocoder software with very limited options. We'll see how Live 8's is. I mixed it into the higher end stuff and sounded okay, but not dramatically different enough to warrant another upload.

I'll try that sometime. I just finished a new song which I managed to make the vocoder sound a bit better by taking your advice, but now I'm a bit musiced out. I also tried to sing with my normal voice for some of it, but the results were laughable. I'll be uploading soon.

I have to say I thought that Parachute Hanahook and Eating Apples are my favourites on your page. But these are all top notch tunes! Nice one!
