ENOUGH OF THE POLITICAL THREADS!!!

Post by 16 BIT » Wed Nov 10, 2004 9:37 am

Why do some members on this board feel the need to constantly post political threads on a music software forum is strange.
Come on guys there are more appropriate forums for those topics than Abletons forums.

Im all for free speech but the situation is becoming ridiculous on this forum now and there are much better forums for spouting political views.

Try www.internetinfidels.com

Massive political forum with posts from people who know what they are talking about.

NO MORE "NO MORE POLITICAL THREADS"
i think there are actually a few more anti political threads on this forum than there are political threads now.

so who's polluting the forum again?

it all reminds me of a famous conversation that once took place...
it went a little something like....

Pot: "whats up Kettle?..."
Kettle: "hey Pot, not much, whats going down?"
Pot: "not much here, i was wondering though..."
Kettle: "yea?"
Pot: "did you notice that you're black??"
Kettle "Wtf?!!"

I agree with you adam and I did think that adding another thread against political threads was not perhaps the best idea. The way I see it if the against outnumber the political threads the small number of members that constantly post their political views might get the message that many of us dont like them.

If the Ableton compnay dont mind them then they should have a general non music software related section on the forum.

I dont think its fair to the company to post political views on their forums and maybe they would like to see them stop but for obvious reasons dont want to come across to their members as oppressive?

.......OH NO....lets not trun this in to another political thread.

may i ask, or even pick your brain for a moment.......
what do you have against political discussion?

did you grow up in a household where things like Politics were never (allowed to be) discussed at the dinner table? I'm not patronizing you, just asking really, as my girlfriend grew up in an environment such as that and i've seen her struggle to be able to voice her own opinion on political subjects.

I'm thinking that alot of the folks protesting the poltical threads simply come from backgrounds where it was a Faux Paux to discuss politics, and the political discussion makes them uneasy as they fear debate and clearly drawn differences in opinion (fears of confrontation and conflict can be deep seeded), where as they don't necessarily have concrete opinions themselves, as they grew up supressing them.

there's reasons for most things, whats the reason for avoiding political discussion?

Please note that it got a little too much because of some trolls who are posting constantly, do not think have anything to do with Ableton or even music. I was stupid bothering to answer , just yesterday noticed that they are few, perhaps it is just the same person registrated under various names. You can easily check it, never posting anything music related just the provocative messages.
There is a simple solution, ignore and if he contiues to write for himself , so what, if it makes him happy, nobody has to read it.

Adam I have my political views and strong they are. I vote and care about what goes on in the world.

I mean that on this forum they are not needed because there are much better forums for discussing topic like that.
Maybe ableton dont like it here but cant say publicly?

The Iraq thing is a hot topic and i think that the politic threads will get more and more on here as long as the conflict lasts which could be a long time

Im not posting on this thread again. i regret even posting it in the first place.
go to www.internetinfidels.com thats the place to be if you want to write politic threads. I have posted there but im out of my depth there because a lot of those people know there stuff.

my last post on this

I personally liked the suggestion of pushing all of these threads to an "off-topic" board... whatever happened to that?

Anyways, I like hearing about them, too. I personally feel that americans receive a rather limited viewpoint as far as news goes, and I appreciate hearing what other people have to say about politics from around the world. But if the general consensus is to just keep it geek here, that's fine, too...

Yeah the reason is that people talk about it non stop, cause fights (real/internet/wars) and generally are just about as annoying as those people who come to your door to spread their religous beliefs.

If you want to change something, VOTE. Go to protests. Become a sharp shooter and assasinate Bush ;), whatever. If you wan't to know more about politics or have a few arguments, fine. Do it on a political forum. Thats what they're for. I think the last thing the music community needs is political fanatics.

By the way, I'm not having a go at you personally Adam. I'm talking about the situation in general and I know many people agree with this.

It's just been very annoying the last few weeks how the whole fucking world couldn't stop crapping on about some election of fuckwits in a distant country that fucks the world over constantly regardless of who is in power. People have had pretty intense arguments (seen it in real life and on the internet) and FOR WHAT? it doesn't acomplish anything other than hate.

Infact I'm quite over caring about the politics threads myself because just like advertising they are easily blocked out. :)

conflict breeds inspiration.
it you'd rather be inspired by Edirol drivers and next generation $150 2 octave midi controllers, thats your bag. me, i'll take the fact that my country re-elected an asshole over the latest Sasha interview as my source of Inspiration. :)

can you not see that everything that happens on this forum has something to do with music? The reason this forum gets so much activity even after the removal of guest posting, is similar to why so many immigrants moved to the west during the turn of the century. The notion of freedom.
I post here what i feel is appropriate because nothing is inappropriate, its all inclusive. And i do it here instead of elsewhere because (at least it used to be this way), i wouldn't get scrutinized.

why is it so hard for people to not click on threads?
I could give a shit about the Quatafire 610, do i flame people for posting about it because it personally does not interest or affect me ? no. do i think its just as important to music as political discussion is? yes.

for the most part, i rarely participate in the hardline political threads. Just like a rarely participate in organized religion. But do i feel folks have the right to participate in either? yes.

the bottom line is
CONTROL = DEATH

Understandability

Consistency

Comparability

Reliability

Objectivity

Relevance

How would you consider something accurate if it is not relevant to the topic.
