does anyone have any hacks for changing rack presets?

i've just tested this on my work imac.

i made a quick rack with 2 nested racks. the racks had a combination of 3rd party vsti's and live devices. they used 30% cpu in total. i placed one drum loop in an audio track and pressed play.

switching a nested rack on would cause a hiccup (audibly recalculated) in the play back of the drum loop.

there is no problem or hiccup in the actual racks themselves, they simply turn on or off

I have to say this was highlighted again for me when trying all the new content

I wanted to switch through all the great new presets Ableton have provided (at long last!) and what a total pain in the arse it was having to use hotswap and use the keyboard arrows or mouse

all I want is to be able to use the buttons on my MIDI keyboard that were built for that exact purpose

i wish we could route different midi channels within racks... Of course now with group tracks not as big a deal to have a bunch of tracks lying around.

So with Live 8, i think a big group that had all your instruments in it, and then midi map to the on/off switch and record enable.

Or just use different midi channels and only map to the on/off switch. This way you can wait for a moment of silence to switch em off.

Necro Bump (Apologies)

Fingers Crossed! I realize it's a long shot but similar to Angstroms original post here, I'm hoping someone has uncovered a new method for changing Rack Preset's via MIDI that makes me shout "Eureka"

I'd really like to stop using Reason Combinators for Live performances. Not because they are a poor option, they actually work really well and I can change presets easily with MIDI but multi-sampling VST's and Live instruments and FX just to import into Combinator is a real time waster.

Anyone?

Do you have M4L? I made a simple device to bounce chain selectors around.

Have you tried routing dummy clips from an isolated track to the chain selector and using the dummy clips to change the chain?

Really though, Ableton needs to just get this solved with a simple preset/program change feature built into ALL racks and instruments. I'm amazed they keep overlooking it.
