[amo] JPEGs! Cool, but one thing...

Post by dextroc » Mon Feb 16, 2009 5:26 pm

I noticed that you can now display jpegs as well as videos. I was just wondering why they were popping up in the browser, and voila, I could put them in my project.
One catch is that they seem to make a sound. One small click in the beginning. I was puzzled to witness, in the session view, that there were some noises coming through one channel that didn't have anything on it. Then I realized that the click appeared at the start of each bar and realized that it was the channel on which I put the jpeg and looped it in arrangement view. So, every time it goes a loop it gives a click. I did notice, though, that doing a "collect all and save" removed the problem.
Now, I doubt that I'm ever going to use jpegs anyway, so this is not a problem for me, but none the less...

Hi,

Can you reproduce this at all? Is it happening with any Jpeg? Any specific condition?

Hi,

which Quicktime version do you have installed?

I have the latest version (QuickTime™ Version 7.6.0 (1290)). I think I recall updating very recently, maybe even after installing the beta.
I think the problem might be with the default warp mode. That is that having it set at complex pro reads all files as REX files. In any case, I have not been able to reproduce the problem, maybe because of an updated version of quicktime. I think it might go away if the other bug is fixed. At least, I think that reading JPEGs as REX files might result in some audio glitches. I'll keep an eye out for the problem, test different JPEGs over the beta testing period (and after) just to see if there actually is a bug there. I'll be sure to let you know then. Until then, I think you could file this under "fixed".

Hi,

Indeed, because of the bug that sets Rex when you've got Complex Pro as the default warp mode, I can see some signal going on, playing a Jpeg that uses Rex. Can you try it again to see if that's the issue for you?

If so, we're on the safe side because basically, once the other bug fixed, there should be no way to get a Jpeg or any other file to use Rex, but if it's actually a Rex file.

Well, I've tried recreating this, even with default warp mode on complex pro, yet I haven't got the signal again. I think this bug would probably go away with the default warp mode bug, but just in case, I will continue testing this after that one is fixed. Just to be on the safe side. I don't think it will bother us again, though.
