The only Moog I own (or have ever owned) is a Prodigy. I know it was considered "low end" for the Moog line, but it was never very musical to me. A lot of maintenance as well.
I feel the same way as you with regards to my Oberheim. No virtual synth gets all of it. The real Ob has the sound of, I don't know...electricity.

Thing about the Memorymoog is it was plagued with tuning issues, then Moog folded before any official resolution. So the thing has unique routings and really nothing quite sounds like 18 oscillators going through a moog filter, but it doesn't make the Classic cute.
In general though I would say the very concept of poly analogs which by the time they were going strong were annexed by the DX7.
Jupiter 6 and 8 and Super Jupiter,
ObX series Matrix 12 and Xpander,
Memorymoog, Prophet 5, Korg Poly Six etc.
these all sound wonderful to me, and aren't fully realized in emulation.

Nord Modular G1
oh yeah, and the Micro. got my micro for $350 to see if I liked programming it (I was worried I wouldn't understand it) turned out I really dig it (still barely understand it) but I saw a G1 keyboard for $500 on ebay some time back and snatched it up, dropped my micro for the same $350 I paid for it. that's a pretty badass $150 upgrade for sure.

It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

The Memorymoog honestly beats my other synths, and I went apeshit a while ago, got an Oberheim Xpander and a Poly Evolver. Thing is the Moog is the hardest to copy sonically on the computer, though the Xpander is a close second.Kilroy wrote:The only Moog I own (or have ever owned) is a Prodigy. Thing is though the Memorymoog had to be modified to get to that point, but now it sends CC messages on all parameters. I'll never sell it.
