I just bought a blue microphone and I have ableton runnin on a windows pc
what do I need to connect my mic to the pc I also have a mpk49. will a mic preamp be all I will need?

you will need an audio interface and a mic preamp.
there are several solutions for several budgets.
maybe you would like to consider an all in one firewire solution?
first of all consider how many channels you would like to record at once.
most interfaces have at least two channels and two preamps build in.
for example the apogee duet. there are other brands like rme, motu or echo...
you then connect your monitors and your mic to the audio interface and you are ready to rock. ahh, yes you will need headphones during recording to not record the ouput of your monitors...
