Live startup image : i prefer 5

Post by brianbacio » Sun Feb 22, 2009 1:18 am

i'v always thought that the Live 5 startup image reflected best the feeling of Live.
Live 7 's startup image has too much of a "bandstand" look to it. True ?
I mean i have to look at the peace of "art" everytime, i fire up, how about artists out there making a quick shot of graphic propositions for Live 8 ?Image

it's a long-standing joke that the images of 'traditional instruments' used in the Splashes are those that least reflect the general Live user.

It's pretty weird!

I mean, to some degree most Live users are interested in vaguely electronic music. (you know this is a computer program, right?)

I also guess a reasonable percentage are playing some form of beaty music, either as a 'DJ' or as a 'techno producer'. Plenty play other sorts of music too, including me - it mainly features samples, loops, synths, silly noises.
Of those of us who do play traditional instruments, we probably play guitars, 'keyboards' and to some extent, drums. We might sing or vocalise in some way.
We probably think of ourselves as 'modern' and 'forward thinking' when it comes to writing music.

Soo...
that's why it makes perfect sense that there's a violin and a trumpet and a grand piano featured so heavily in the L7 splash. Because we are all mainly aiming to perfect our own version of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2, right ?

eh?

You all know you can change the splash screen... right? On a mac, ctrl-click the live app icon and select show package contents. Find the LiveSplash.tif and switch it out with the .tif of your choice.

Don't know the process on a PC though... anyone?

Now that's an instrument I always wanted to learn, presumably "Stringtapper" means that you play one, yes?

I'm envious but respectful.

absolutely..

and the sillyness continues..
the 'inspiration' for that orchestra splash comes from the EIC, which isn't even a core part of Live but an add-on..
and you would think that after 6/7, 8 would finally come with a new graphic approach since Live became so much different with the whole MFL/Collaboration/APC40 features..

but naah.. they just zoomed in on the orchestra, et voila! done..
too easy, poor job, missed opportunity..

and we all remember this one right?

Personally I really like the new splash screens. It reminds me that real instruments exist.
