[amo] Non-logical global quantize with odd time signatures

Post by Lo-Fi Massahkah » Sun Feb 22, 2009 11:18 am

Live 8 beta 12

To reproduce:

* Start a new set
* Set the time signature to 12/8
* Set global quantize to 1/2
* Make two midi clips within one track. Both 1 bar long.
* Press global record
* Start clip one and immidiately clip two

Second clip is started after 4/8 rather than after 6/8, which amounts to 1/3 of a bar rather than half a bar (as chosen in global quantize).

The bug shows up in a similar manner with time signatures 6/8, 3/4, 5/4. And I realize the half a bar in for example 5/9 would be problematic. But as it is now, everything seems to be based on the assumption that everyone is making four-to-the-floor productions.

This is the result:

This is what it should be (in my opinion):

Hi,

Sorry for the long delay.

1/2 is not half a bar, but "half a note", as in the musical notation: A full note is 4 1/4th, half a note is 2 1/4th etc..
That is what your second clip starts after 4/8.

Please post in the wishlist or the discussion forum if you want something else.

Hi Amaury,

Thanks for taking the time. It strikes me that it's possible that this has been the way of earlier Live versions as well. But that has passed un-noticed on my part.

Now I get it.

You can kill this thread. :wink:
