Help on making my Hi Hats "Sucky"

Working on a little minimal house and i really want to get a certain effect on my hi hats that i have coming on the offbeat.

What ive done is put the one hit sample into Simpler, and upped the transpose to around 50%...EQ'd everything but the top end off as well.

I really want to get the "sucky" effect for use of a better word almost like they are reversed if you guys can get what i mean.

Anyone offer up some cool tips on this?

i may be wrong but are you talking about that 'TSSSSssshhhhhhhhh' type of hihat (open hihat) that stays loud and gels very much into the next snare as it finishes?

which is more of a house thing and not that common in minimal?

if so, i think it's more a case of finding the right kind of open hihat sample and using some compression on it to keep it loud, then using a reversed version of it just before the snare hits in.

A combination of compression (to make it sustain longer) and volume envelopes (to make it pump/bounce) has worked well for me. Envelopes on EQ boost/cut bands can do amazing things too.

apologies if it sounds too obvious but do u mean the "pumping" sidechain effect ?
well i dont produce minimal nor i know any particular techniques used in this genre but juding from what i hear i'd start experimentg just with a kick and white noise,assign the same 4/4 pattern to both and let the kick trigger the compression on the noise channel, than adjust attack and release to give it that sucking effect

I found my drums sounded a lot tighter and 'together' when I started putting my kicks/snares/hats into a drum bus with compressor on them all together.

I found this does wonders:

Not sure if its exactly what your after, but I think a part of that sound is having the hats interact with the drums around them.

Sounds about right to me this, yeah btw got my genres a little mixed up there. This track probably is a bit more housey as opposed to minimal. SO i think what ur describing sounds spot on.

Thanks to all replies as well, had to laugh at the 1st guy stating the obvious there as well....um, reverse it!

Thanks for that link.

Well i like to send my kick and snare / clap to a bus channel with a compressor on to bring them a bit more together....The rest of my drums i send to a seperate bus which i then sidechain with the kick/clap.

I find this really helps on drums.
