The playback cursor will move, but no sound is heard.

Strange Clip behavior- may be related to this bug...

Post by db91977 » Sun Jan 25, 2009 9:58 pm

I tried to duplicate TareKith's bug on my system. I haven't been able to, in the Arrangement View, but here's some weird Clip behavior in Session View:

1. Loaded the Demo Song "La cosa del mar..."
2. Session View - stop all clips, then trigger only the "Rhythm" clip in the first Scene (Intro 1). This clip is Warped & Looped.
3. Stop playback with the Space Bar.
4. Resume playback with Shift-Space. The clip plays, (from the beginning, not from the point it stopped!) but at a slightly faster tempo, for about one second. Then, the audio stops, the cursor keeps moving, and the Disk Overload light comes on.

Subsequent behavior differs after this point, depending on my actions:

* If I then let it go to the end of the clip, it will loop to the beginning, and audio is heard.
* If I do #4 above, then stop again with Space Bar & resume with Shift-Space, the cursor starts from the stop point as it should, but the audio plays from the beginning of the clip. Every time I stop with Space and resume with Shift-Space, the audio plays from the beginning of the clip, at a slightly faster tempo, as in #4.
* If I switch on the RAM option in the clip's Sample box, the audio does play on Resume; however, it plays from the beginning of the clip, not the point it was stopped at.
* If I de-select Warp on this clip, trigger the clip and stop/start with Space and Shift-Space as in #4, the clip pauses and resumes like it should, with the exception that when I press Shift-Space to resume, there is a very slight pause (and sometimes, a low-level click sound), and the Disk Overload light comes on for a fraction of a second, probably around 0.1 sec. before the audio resumes.
* If I play the clip un-Warped and un-Looped, with the RAM switch ON, I can pause/resume the clip with no problems.

I tried the above experiment on a couple other clips in this Live Set.
* The "Guit Solo" track, third Scene. This acted almost the same as the Rhythm Guitar above, except that sometimes the audio plays on Resume; other times there is no audio output from the clip.
* The "Simpler" track, second Scene. I could stop and resume this clip with no problems
* The "Drums L" track, first Scene. This exhibited the same behavior as the other audio clips- sometimes the audio is not resumed on Shift-Space. But I noticed that the glitch does not occur on the first time through the loop.

This glitch appears to only affect clips which are audio samples, not MIDI notes.

It goes crazy when I use shift + space to restart playback.

Sometimes it speeds up then goes back to normal, sometimes it speeds up then the audio stop (though playback continues), sometimes it works normally.

Further notes on the audio dropping out on Clips upon Resume Play:

I tried loading other Live Sets with Clips which contain audio samples, and similar behavior occurred. The first time through the loop, the Clip pauses and resumes with no problems. The second and subsequent times through the loop, it exhibits the problems noted in my post above:
1. The audio drops out
2. The Disk Overload light comes on
3. If the Clip is allowed to play, sans audio, until it loops around to the beginning, the audio will play at the loop start.
4. On some Clips, the audio will resume, but on others, there is no audio from the Clip until it loops back to the beginning.

I have verified that this bug also occurs in Arrangement View. Only audio tracks are affected; MIDI tracks stop/resume normally with Shift-Space.

Still there in Beta 5. Except its not speeding up for me anymore, but there is either just sound for a few seconds and then silence or just silence. It appears to be playing back at the correct speed and continuing playback, just no sound.
