Impulse rookie needs advice

i'm using impulse loaded with a bass drum and snare, I can hear it play in my headphones and see the master meter and midi track light up so I know it's receiving the signal. my trouble is when I try and record on session or arrangement it registers as numbers and i cant hear the midi when i play it back? the midi editing grid shows that it received the input? I've got the track armed. I'm a newby, got the manual next to me, just stuck. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to, Am for helping out with my last couple questions.
