ableton resets my hardware synths after an hour or so
I use ableton with propellerheads reason , an access virus rack , sounddiver OEM for virus (latest version) , a Yamaha rm1x (as soundmodule , not as sequencer) , an m-audio uc33 controller , m-audio 4x4 usb midi port and emagic a26 soundcard in win2000.
After using ableton for a period of time (30 mins ... couple of hours) , ableton stops sending midi to my hardware or sends some wrong midi data. It can happen in the middle of a song while doing nothing:
- reason keeps receiving midi and playing audio through rewire
- audio tracks in ableton keep playing
- midi-in signals are still received
- it seems ableton still sends out midi-out data
but the hardware synths play no sound
--> after reloading the patches in the hardware synths , they work once again ... sometimes relaunching ableton is necessary too.
Is it possible ableton resets some controllers after some time?
In the rm1x i noticed all filter and voice settings were set to the lowest value possible after it stopped playing.
It's like ableton sets all hardware controllers to 0 , which creates a patch that's inaudible (for example lowpassfilter with cutoff=0) both on the rm1x and the virus.
Anybody else suffers from this?
Are there known issues with the m-audio 4*4 usb midi controller?
Is it a known problem?

Sounds to me like the USB hubs are powering down.XP will do this by default.M-Audio and Midiman stuff don't play well with power interruptions.
Go into device manager, and right click on each of your USB hubs to bring up the properties.Uncheck everything under the power management tab.Reboot.
Your problem should be gone.

hmm , that seems a reasonable explanation , also , the emi26 is known to skweek every last bandwith out of the usb port
i checked the settings howerever and everything was unchecked , I'm gonna try disconnecting the ec33 from usb and only connecting it through midi , that might help , only problem is the error occurs at random so it might take a while to find out if it works
thx for the help anyway
