Another huge benefit that people don't talk about much is the visual feedback of the lights in the pads. When a sound is loaded on a pad it has a dim light, which helps see and remember quickly what pads have sounds on them. Also the selected is brightly lit and they flicker when being triggered which makes it easy to remember what sounds are where as you hear the rhythm and see the corresponding light patterns. This is a cool benefit that other pad devices, even an MPC, don't have.

don't sell the 909, if you do, sell it for something cooler than an APC.

yeah but most people wouldn't by an mpc if the pads lit up, its kind of part of it's ethos most people memorize thier pads, I think doc holiday would love an korg esx-1 over a maschine but he doesn't believe me

is that even remotely possible? there's no processing power in the maschine. you can't make a simple box have the processing power of a full on computer.

kewl. I have no interest in getting into the maschine, I really didn't know what it might be capable of.

I've come to the realization that the only thing that will kill MPC lust is a MPC!

I'm just not real happy with what Akai has done with the 5000. OS2 was just released, but I've already read of users having issues with it. Also, why did they take a step back from the 4000 on some of the specs?

I'm completely finished with the thought of BPM and Maschine, but I'm still on the fence about buying a MPC 5000. I actually want to wait and see if they plan on releasing a new one (6000 maybe?) in the next couple of years, or are they just going to add a few new OS's to the 5000.

I own a 3000, and nothing really compares to that hands on, instant workflow.
Yeah an online buddy just got a 1000, and so far he's loving it. He's a Live user also, so I'm waiting for more info from him to see how he's getting along with it. I was excited when the 5000 came out because I was looking at the MV but it seemed wrong to get a "roland mpc" instead of the real thing. But I can't believe it's 16bit! That killed it for me, if I get one at all it'll be a 1000 methinks.

I'd still be interested in Maschine, but just like every other virtual drum-sampler solution it comes close but misses the mark (for me): no midi export, no host automation, no drag-n-drop from daw, limited slicing etc...

i had an mpc 2000 for about 6 years, i don't miss it.

maschine will give you live step sequencing you just don't get on an mpc.

I have heard bad things about the MPC5000

There was a blog by Just Blaze about how much he hates his. Maybe look into the 1000, 2500, or 4000

PS: I own a 2000 OG

you do not get the visual feedback.

i'm sure they come a long a bit in the last few years .. but it didn't quite do it right for me.

things were different when you didn't depend on the computer so much..

2002 seems like so long ago

I'm looking at it right now.

JJOS MODE+pad 15 hold down record and hit pads. I see two measures of notes, when I hit a pad, a note is created and the cursor steps forward one step.

then there's mode+pad 14, which is more like the stock step sequencer, you just see a list of notes as you step through them.

I totally respect that you know gear and know what you're doing. maybe you never tried the JJOS, it makes the stock OS look absolutely silly. every MPC owner should at least check out the JJOS.
