White Noise

Post by DJMillsy » Sun Mar 01, 2009 11:31 am

What does everyone use for generating white noise effects?

I know it is possible to get White Noise from most synths but ESP in Logic seems to be the daddy and I was wondering if anyone knows of a synth to rival this for producing cool fx sweeps?

I use a microphone outside my window. Malmö is windy.

What makes it the daddy? It just seems to produce the best sweeps I guess it's the filter design? A few of my friends use logic and for some reason the white noise just sounds better from the ESP than any of the other synths so they use it all the time. I've also seen a few other producers mentioning it as their go to for white noise.

I guess it's the audio equivalent of white light - all frequencies mixed together.

Either Operator or my Waldorf Pulse. White noise is great! I guess not all white noise is the same though, depending on the bandwidth/power spread...

I wouldn't advice Operator... It doesn't generate white noise, it's a loop sample. That's really a shame.

Well, you can get pretty interesting results by combining different frequencies of Noise in Operator. ;)
I do prefer this looped random noise, rather than just old plain white noise myself. Just so many more options..

I use pro tools. I also have nice good streams of water close to my parent's place, which makes the noise not that white, but sweeter anyway.

Did I hear somewhere that the new Operator in Live 8 has better white noise than before? ...or did I dream that...?

Oops! Maybe, I'll take a look. Because the loop is very audible.
