I just realized another amazing benefit of group tracks!

Post by glitchrock-buddha » Sun Mar 01, 2009 8:13 pm

Naturally I was thinking of group tracks mainly as a way to organize groups of tracks. But the benefits are more than that.

Haven't you ever wished that when you freeze a track, that you could still add effects over it? (Like you can in Cubase I think, where you can freeze instruments/effects separately if I'm not mistaken). Normally in Live if you freeze a track, you'd have to create another track to hold the effects and route your frozen track to it, which of course creates extra tracks and now your clips are on a different track then your effect.

BUT NOW in LIVE 8...

Simply freeze your track and then group it by itself. Now you can add effects to your frozen track, and still trigger the clips from the same track! It keeps it nice and organized and still tweakable (by effects), while keeping all the benefits of freezing (Easy to undo to edit/add clips or midi data).

Little things like this just about make me cry in happiness with Live 8.

This will actually encourage me to use frozen tracks more I think. Never used 'em before because I didn't like having nothing to tweak on a track. Now at least it's easy to chuck a filter or effect on a frozen track to alter the sound. This could also make me less stingy with cpu. Funny how much of a cascading workflow benefit something like this can have.

That was the first effect I put on my frozen collision track when I first thought of grouping the frozen track. And it sounded damn fine. 8)

I just discovered that freezing tracks saved my life.
I thought freezing tracks was clicking the yellow squires.
Had so many problems with cpu overload haha.

But I'll try this in live 8 if this is out.
