External Synth patch list- is it possible?

Hello Forum

Is it possible to create bank & patch lists for external synths that then appear in the dropdown menus in an "external synth" instrument.

There are the patch & bank dropdowns in the "notes" section of the clip but I cannot see an obvious way to put in the actual patch & bank names from a synth.

I have had a look through the manual with no joy.

I know Sonar and Cubase allow import of synth setups.

sadly there's no adequate way of organisiing external synth patches
inside Live... i also wish it would be a little more comfortable.
You can do Bank/Preset changes within a clip. So, when you start a
clip which contains a programchange message, the synth will follow
(there's no implementation of the actual names of a program)

see your synth manual to look how it's behave on program change messages.

what i do is to save the created/used patches of my Nord Modular into
the Project folder. So i have all according external patches where they
belong.

i can imagine that M4L can do superb stuff on this front

Similar to what m:o is saying, I use a series of Dummy clips to change patches on my external synth. Works great and I can map them all to a controller.

yep, cool thing is that you CAN name the dummyclips according to your
patch names. A further idea is to have a track with dummyclips, each
changes the synth to a specific patch. say you have 30 clips(patches)
in this track. now you can save the track with your patches in the
library for further use. In a new project, you just drop the patches
track in, and have your 30 synth patches at hand. voila.
