Look for ethnic percussion kits

Post by pamplemousse_mk2 » Tue Mar 03, 2009 8:08 pm

Hello,

I'm looking for ethnic (African, Asian, ...) percussion kit collections to use with Live, certainly with Drum racks. But I don't know which one. Does anyone can give some product advices? I have seen Big Fish earth tone (http://www.bigfishaudio.com/4DCGI/detail.html?1281). Is it worth it?

Thanks.

Cut the drums out of your favorite ethnic songs. When I want congos and what not I cut them out of Brazilian samba sngs

Well if you can wait for Live 8, or get yourself a beta, it includes the latin percussion for drum racks. It does it up cpu and load slowly though. But the kits are huge and they can be made more simple.

Otherwise, there's also terragroove from TrackTeam Audio: http://www.trackteamaudio.com/#2

Dont say "Ethnic" it shows a lack of understanding of music as a global entity. It shows the arrogance of western culture. Its not european music and all others lumped in together under the umbrella term "ethnic"

If you're into cutting loops, this is a good recording-

Hello,

thanks all a lot.

I will look at all these products. The best thing would be to have percussion kits rather than loops, but I think that loops should sound more realistic.

I think there is no problem to talk about ethnic music. I'm an Asian living in Europe and I know differences between the European music and the Asian music. I don't find this arrogant. When I used the word "Ethnic", everybody knows which kind of sounds I'm looking for and points to the right products, so this is fine.

But I also understand your meanings, morerecords, and what you say is also fine.

About Live 8, the Latin kit concerns only Latin percussions. I don't think this is exactly what I'm looking for. But I can give it a try.

Bye.

computer music has an awesome bunch of 'ethnic folk' samples on the cover this month. loads of percussion in there, not loops but tonnes of single samples.

they're fairly awesome in my opinion and come free with a magazine.

You're kidding right?

Ethnic:
• of or relating to a population subgroup (within a larger or dominant national or cultural group) with a common national or cultural tradition : "leaders of ethnic communities."
• of or relating to national and cultural origins : "we recruit our employees regardless of ethnic origin."
• denoting origin by birth or descent rather than by present nationality

Ethnic persussion means percussion which originates in a particular culture, could be any part of the world. Would you rather he said "Hey, I'm looking for percussion kits of or relating to a population subgroup or cultural group" - Ya, great thread title.

I think what he meant was that the term "ethnic percussion" doesn't mean anything. It could mean Afro cuban. Irish, Chinese, Spanish,.. whatever. I can't believe they still have world music sections in music shops. Like there's music from europe and the u.s. and then the rest is from "the world". wtf?

yes, you would say the region or origin of the music other than 'ethnic' its just insesitve, it usage stems from a decades back when globalization was not happening quite so quickly, but its happening at a fast pace, and is becoming more and more important to observe music from its region and to say so, to honor its lineage as we mix and match cultures so fliipantly

regardless of ethnic background is ok, because that means regardless of your "ethnicity" in other words, regardless of heritage or lineage. I dont rememebr your other two examples but i know better than to get into forum debates if i ever want to get music written, so just apply what I am trying to say and seee if they do anything for you, if not, maybe in time things will change for you, or not i dont care you know what i am trying to say at this poiint, and either agree or disagree

when you say "I am looking for ethnic" sounds, that means every single sound ever! Isnt that a little strange? and in context of the west that would mean every single sound ever except western. strange also.

oh, and I didnt think he meant anything negative at all, just that it worked out to be negative, to me at least.
