time bar , zooming., etc.

I tried over several hours this beta8. version. I wander why things get more & more complicated instead the opposite? Is the software made by the comuter specialists or musicians? Or both but without co-operation?
Somwhere along the programing your software experts forgot that the basic idea is the simple accustic recording of music just like The Beatles & Stones did.
The following points are for me badly solved in this but also in the 7.14 version.:

1. It is possible but in a very inconvinient way to get to the very beginning of recording bar 1.0.0. ( particularilly with the mouse). This must be solved in the most simple way
2. Zooming to the exact point of music is very complicated . I noticed that even usin + sign gets you to unknown piont in recording. very badly solved now. Must be very simple
3. I noticed tha insertin locatos do not work well with the mouse . You cannot rename the locator with right clic of mouse,

4. Overall , main thing is that many practical moves like recording over some existing music ( correcting previous mistakes) is difficult in manipulation.

Abletone management should to my oppinion get back to the basic ideat that is making and recording music in the most simple way, avoiding lot of mouse and keyboard usage for just one simple point. Extremely much of possibilities led you to the point that your software experts did a lot in programing but forgot that it is basically intended for musicians who record music not the software conmpetition in complicity.

To summarise : This is not the revolutionary new approach I expected. The display is the same , many functions too complicated for even experienced sound tehnician durin live recording process, and I suggest that many points need to be revamped to simplify recording steps and improve on display functionalitm.

However, I will remain the user of Live ( and also Live 8.) but the competition is getting hard to beat nowdays , and if you turn back to making/recording music in the simplest possible way instead of creating lot of unnecessary software you will be on the right track.

Best regards to Abletone team, and I hope they will read this and take some action.

1. pressing stop twice sends you to 1.1.1
2. really? zooming in live is the easiest i've ever seen. for big moves, click in the arrange overview to jump to a section. for more accuracy click in the beats/bars ruler over what you want to zoom in on and drag down.
3. highlight the locator and hit command-r (or whatevs the pc equivalent.

rtfm

and this section is for bug reports. the beta 8 discussion forum is for the bitching.

1. not quite so as you stated. During recording & playback whwn you clic certain time poit of the recording with the mouse double space bar pressing of keyboard will take you to that point and NOT to the 1.1.1 . You can achieve this only with double click with mouse on the stop square button . At least in my complete version of 7.14 . As I said lot of movement for nothing. I think it should be solved with just one click of the backspace key

2. theoretically so. but in practice when recording live and with musitians in studio you can easilly miss the wanted point of time recording and than you need a lot of moving left & rigjht with your mouse to find this point. Anyway, you need a lot of adjustments with the mouse to pin point exact time point with very large zooms what is needed in correcting things . Do not agree with you

3. again, lot of unnecessary movement with keys & mouse. This is what I am trying to say. It is simple recording of music what it is about and not computer game

If you're renaming something, you will be writing on your keyboard anyway. In my opinion, it makes very little difference whether you right click on something, click on a context menu entry (or similar) to start the renaming, then move your hands onto the keyboard to type in the new name, OR just click on an element, move your hands onto the keyboard, hit ctrl-r and type in the new name. If anything, I find the latter method quicker.

About quickly going to the beginning of the project no matter where you are in the GUI: place an Arrangement Marker at 1.1.1 and bind a key to it. Personally, I have had the letter "Q" bound to a marker at 1.1.1 for years now, basically because it feels like a natural location for other fingers when I use the spacebar with the thumb of my left hand. Then, as the arrangement of a project progresses, I add other locators for different arrangement sections, beginning from W to the right, and I'm thoroughly used to controlling the project locations like this.

If you save the 1.1.1 marker in your template, you will always have a key to go to the beginning of the project timeline, everywhere, every time you start a new project. (There has been some bugs with the markers in the betas, so it might not currently work in Live 8 as it's supposed to, but hey, it's a beta -- and you can try this in Live 7, works like charm.)

Hi bluesfinger,

Please, it is much easier if you report issues one at a time, in a new thread each time, so that we can deal with the issues better.

I believe that most of what you're talking about is solved now. Please, give it a try, and open one thread per remaining issue.
