Mbox programs

Post by loren! » Fri Dec 31, 2004 7:00 pm

I just got m box right 'bout christmas and installed protools and reason adapted just fine, but i have a problem with amplitube, sample tank, and t-racks. I cant figure out how to use them. are they vst's? are they rewire programs? do they only work with pro tools? I cant figure them out! The cd's came with authorization codes to unlock them, but when i instaled them, it never asked for the codes. ? can anyone help? i'm shure plenty of people have an m box. also, what are the advantages of pro tools over live for produceing music with synths drum machines... ect.

Thanks.

You really should be asking this on Digidesign's support, but for the most part, these plugin's maybe ProTools only versions (RTAS, not VST) and would only show up in ProTools. You didn't even mention if you are using Live or not. If you are, and if you are rewiring Live into ProTools, then ProTools is your master program and all plugins will only be available within ProTools anyways (i.e., even if you had a VST plugin in Live, you couldn't use it since Live would be the slave program.)

Hope that made sense...

Those are RTAS only. The versions of Live and Reason included in that bundle are pretty limited. They are just a taste that leaves you wanting more. I have heard of some vst shell programs that will incorporate into pro-tools and host vst effects, but since I got Live four, I really don't bust out the pro tools LE that much. The MBOX hard ware is pretty handy for a little setup though...

I would get your tracks together in Live and then bounce them over to ProTools for mastering. T-Racks should help with that.

I think this may the answer to you question:
You use these plugin as inserts in PTools. Amplitube is for guitar sounds, sample tank is a sampler, and t-racks is some basic mastering tools.
When you click the "insert" it should bring a list of plugins you can use including the IK media stuff. I hope I'm on the right track. Good luck.

Where is this "insert?" is it in a menu or in a window or something?

it's on the protool arrange page on the left hand side. I tried to post a screen shot, but couldn't work out how, sorry!

Go to the mix window, the screen that looks like a mixing console. The inserts are the little buttons at the top of each channel with little triangles on them, or little arrow things, y'know? There should be like four of them. Click on the little triangle and a menu opens up. You can choose the plug-in that you want to use from that menu.

Included in the mbox bundle of software is documentation for all the products you mention. The IK stuff is in the form of readmes that apparently went out afterwards so the pro tools stuff is an addendum. you gotta select stereo inserts for them -sampletank also requires that you use a midi track as well...

my 2cents worth -don't bother -the lite versions are yunk
