[amo] Looper does not fade away in play mode

Post by Angstrom » Fri Jan 30, 2009 5:03 pm

I have submitted this as a bug before, but we seem to be heading away from a solution, rather than towards it !

Looper: The feedback knob is now zombied when not overdubbing.
IMO - that is not an improvement.
I think that the Looper needs to be able to fade away while in Play mode.

Very often a user will want to play an instrument on top of a loop, and have that loop fade away beneath.

Currently the user MUST be in overdub to have a fading loop , which means they cannot play on top of it (without it being added to the loop).

So I think I understand what you are asking for but I can't think of any looper that really allows this. The only workaround I can think of is to put the Looper on a return leave it in record mode and toggle the send to the looper on and off. This seems to do what you might be thinking,
cheers

And another little workaround, Add an effect rack. Put two Utility Effects in the rack add the Looper to one of these. Map the Gain in each Utility to a macro. Reverse the Min/Max of one of the Gains. Now when you toggle the Macro volume should go up on one Utility and down on the other. Now you only send to the Looper when one is engaged but the looper can keep playing and Fading when you don't send it anything.

Or just set up an insert track with a Utility. Macro with range set from -inf to 0db, and you effectively have a feedback knob in any mode.

That said, I agree that there is no reason to zombie the feedback knob in play mode.

I agree with Angstrom. There should be a setting where feedback can affect play mode. This is actually in both of the looping plug-ins I use: Sooperlooper and Mobius. Having feedback work in play mode and turn it down just a little is a great way to fade out your song. All hands free with your FCB.

It would be very cool to have a decay. Both synced and free time.
So you can have a Looper fading out as soon as Play is triggered over 8 Bars or 20 Seconds.

Anyway. Thats a feature request. Having to use overdub to fade out a loop is a bug.
It makes sense to have a decay on the Looper if the intention is to actually provide the ability to fade loops. The feedback doesn't really seem suitable for that.
And a Decay plus Feedback would be awesome. You can let the loop fade away and let the effects take over.

Hi,

I move that thread away, as there is no bug, and remaining thoughts should go to the wishlist.
