MPC 5000 vs. Maschine, BPM, APC40, and Live 8 Suite Boxed.
MPC 5000 vs. Maschine, BPM, APC40, and Live 8 Suite Boxed.
I already own Live 7 Suite and a MPD 32.
I was considering buying a MPC 5000 later this year, but here is my question:
For what a MPC 5000 costs, I could get Maschine, BPM, an APC40, and the boxed upgrade to Live 8 Suite, and still have money left over.
MPC 5000 full blown:
$2599
http://1226354.estore.networksolutionsd ... bok?no=258
or
The Bundle:
(Total cost $1538.91)
Maschine:
$599.97
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Maschine/
BPM:
$279.97
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BPM
APC40:
$399.97
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/APC40
Live 8 Suite Boxed Upgrade:
$259.00
I think the bundle gives me a lot more bang for my buck, and a little of $1000 to spend on other s#it.
What do you guys think?

I don't see why bother getting BPM when you'd have maschine and drum racks. That's plenty of mps like drum stuff there. I think Drum Rack + Maschine + BPM would be overkill.
I say get Maschine/APC40/Live 8. But that's just the way I'm going.

I agree. I think it would be overkill too, but the thing is, you could get that much overkill and still save over $1000 vs. buying a MPC 5000 full blown.

i'd get a 2500+jjos over the 5000 anyday of the week.
add a real synth and Live 8= happiness.

Re: MPC 5000 vs. Maschine, BPM, APC40, and Live 8 Suite Boxed.
is this really a question? mpc is about half of what ableton can do, and then the apc and mashine can completely OWN the crap out of an mpc.
save your money and buy some new monitors or room treatment, that will do better than any freaking mpc... lol...
god mpc's make me laugh sometimes.

Re: MPC 5000 vs. Maschine, BPM, APC40, and Live 8 Suite Boxed.
get the maschine/apc/live 8 combo.. bpm would be redundant and would just be another interface and workflow to learn. stick w/ maschine and learn it inside/out.. Plus you've got the APC40 to learn also as that might change your workflow if you incorporate it for studio use. Use the spare change from not buying BPM towards Max4live or the ableton/serato collab when it comes out.. I've seen too many people selling off their mpc's lately on craigslist and makes me wonder.. especially the 5000.. Maybe these guys are still running V1 of the software but I think we're starting to see the decline of the MPC mystique.. I mean Just Blaze blasted the damn machine in one interview.. he doesn't even use the mpc anymore and alot more artist are following.. but do what your comfortable with.. I guess so many are stuck with the workflow of the mpc they don't want to change.. but I think maschine and I am sure many future products will change that.. I saw the videos online and yeah, the workflow is similar if not better than what I use to do when I had a mpc2000.. I too want to get maschine but just hesitant right now cuz it's too early and they will release an updated hardware by the next year or something.. BTW, KB420, I listend to some of your stuff on your myspace, I don't know how I stumbled upon it, I think I was at the future producers forum.. Same SN name, but if so, your tunes are pretty freakin' dope.. I can tell you've been doing this for a while.. It was refreshing to hear something other than house/electronica/trance being made w/ ableton..

Ok. Let's take a look at that scenario.
MPC 2500 full blown:
$1899
http://1226354.estore.networksolutionsd ... l.bok?no=1
or
The Bundle:
(Total cost $1538.91)
Maschine:
$599.97
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/Maschine/
BPM:
$279.97
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/BPM
APC40:
$399.97
http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/APC40
Live 8 Suite Boxed Upgrade:
$259.00
Still a difference of $360.09. Still, you get a lot more bang for the buck with "The Bundle".
I'm not a MPC or Akai hater, I just want to get a feel for what people think about hardware drum machines now that software has soo many options for drum and sample arrangement. I heard something about Akai dropping the MPC4000 because sales were terrible on it. I don't actually know how sales on the 5000 are going, and I'm just curious to see how people feel about the 5000 now.
With cpu power constantly increasing, and software options ever expanding, have the MPC's lost their place in the production world?
Or is the MPC workflow still king?

mpcs should eventually become obsolete thanks to ableton

I haven't checked out my Myspace page in a while. I need to update it, but I've been way too busy.

I already have a pad controller mpd 24 + drum racks, so I'm going to bypass machine all together, upgrade to 8, pick up the apc40, and maybe a drum machine like the xr20.

Well, Live 8 suite has the famous MPC grooves built in, so you'll have the rhythmic feel of an MPC... and you already have the MPD so you also have the Physical feel of an MPC. So far the instrument Library is great in the Live8 beta. The drum sounds that are there all are good but minimal (almost seems like some drums were taken away, but replaced with better sounds).
Why don't you evaluate what you can not obtain with the Live 8 update (and make sure you CAN"T obtain it in Live 8, cause I've realized there are a lot of features people request on this board that they can already do but didn't know how), Get your hands on a good drum library (or do what you would have to do if you bought the MPC... Sample)
There are very few things that don't come natural in Live with drums like, Time Stretched samples in drum racks. That pisses me off, but there are always work-arounds... an example would be using the time stretch in impulse instead, or to figure out what tempo you will want to use, warp your file, drag it to arrangement view, consolidate to the speed you want the file to be and re-slice. (I keep the original buried in the song in case I need to switch tempo and re-consolidate, re-slice), Now you have the sample with proper pitch and timing (and effect - Eq, 12 bit, distortion, etc.).
There are a few things you CAN NOT get done in Live 8, but they're getting to be very few. Some of the best music we've had as human beings are at least 10 years old and Live 8 completely shits on any 10 year old Digital instrument or DAW.
