Newbie Trying to Dj with Live

Post by roipoli » Thu Mar 12, 2009 3:31 am

Hi I'm a traditional dj of 10 yrs plus and have recently got into Live, I only have a couple of questions when djing with live how do you listen to the track you want to bring in just like traditional djing ie thru the headphones on the other channel!? I've read the manual and looked at the FAQ's but just don't understand any of it! I need a real simple run down of it please?

I'm using an Asus Laptop, running with USB to a Tascam US-144 audio midi interface into an Allen & Heath Xone 92 mixer, if that helps?

Next question Recently I took my setup out to do a live set and when I plugged my laptop into my interface then into a different mixer I was getting bad interference from my power supply to my laptop! On battery fine no noise with power bad noise sounded like the battery was being charged which it is i suppose?! Is this a charger fault or is it something else? My Laptop is only 2 weeks old! Would a firewire connection stop this?

I appreciate any help given, peace to all music makers and lovers alike,

I believe your Tascam audio interface only has one stereo out. You would need another pair of outs in order to have a headphone cue.

So another interface or one with 2 outs then?

Look at this video of me http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id= ... =696348351 what I'm doing here is using outs 1/2 of my soundcard (RME Multiface)to the mixer and outs 3/4 for cueing. But 99% of the time I don't use headphones, I don't need them.

Hey thanks for the help,
I actually managed to use my Tascam by splitting the audio out into 2outs!
Also i sorted the issue with the noise, its a grounding issue with
the power pack for the Laptop! In Australia you need a 2pin adapter not
3.
