dropping a multiband and a utility in 2 separate chains in a rack causes delay based phasing. If I drop another mutiband into the utility chain, it sounds fine.

Hi,

Are you sure it is a Delay Compensation problem? The Multiband Dynamic is never neutral, because of the filtering. Even with the amount set to 0%, because the amount is only the amount of compression/expansion, it's not a Dry/Wet.

It sounds the same as if you have a saturator in high quality mode and do the same rack thing. I was told the only way around the saturator oversampling+delay compensation problem was to use another saturator in bypass mode in the same rack.

Have you tried it? It's not a subtle phasing problem I'd expect to hear across filter crossover bands from what I remember.

Hi,

I have tried and it sounds like some phasing. But, if it were a Delay Compensation issue, turning the device OFF should also produce some phasing, as for the Saturator example you gave. Here, if you turn the device OFF, you get silence, meaning that everything is all right with delay compensation.
