Re: OT - RE5: You may be waiting for L8, but...

Post by Nick the Zombie » Sat Mar 14, 2009 4:46 pm

I've heard ups and downs about this game, but it's damn beautiful. I loved RE4, so hopefully this game hasn't lost that magic. I played co-op with a friend in the demo and that was extremely fun. Speaking of which, I heard that co-op is a must for this game as the AI partner is apparently dumb as shit. I got it coming in from Gamefly pretty soon so we'll see...

Played the demo; didn't like it. I thought the controls (on the PS3) were clunky at best, and made the game far more challenging in a bad way. I don't mind hard games, but when I'm suffering at the hands of poor controls... Pfft. RE4 on the Wii was the business (still have it!) as the Wiimote made it a bit more fun.

Currently playing through Silent Hill, which is scary as fu**. *pant-pooing time*. And 'Dead Space'? Excellent game.

Haven't played all the R.E. games but that was my experience with the few I did play, clumsy as fuck to the point that I didn't finish any of them.

I'm probably a bad reference though. There are a lot of new video games out that people rave about but as soon as it gets to some retarded puzzle or some perfect move timed down to the nanosecond, I'm out. Oh and timed challenges. I HATE timed challenges.

I think my favorite new game was Bioshock. That's about my pace, challenge, and interest level right there. Fallout 3 a close second.

From what I've seen/read so far, it seems that the franchise is really changing. This barely even seems like a RE game anymore, with its emphasis on action, plentiful guns & ammo and that everything's in broad daylight. Which begs the question: If they're gonna change the game, why oh why can't they change the gameplay along with it, and finally allow us to run+shoot at the same time? I understand that "fight or flight" is the nature of RE, but I'm afraid that by trying to have it both ways, it becomes the worst of both worlds instead of the best.

And if Sheva's AI is as bad as I've been reading, I probably won't get far in this game either since I'll only be playing it by myself...

Eee!

Bioshock was excellent. Great story, great gameplay, and looked sexy as fu**. Is Fallout 3 worth getting? Am currently battling my way through Eternal Sonata (a Final Fantasty-alike), Skate 2, Silent Hill 5, and LittleBigPlanet. Too much going on...!

The fun thing about Fallout 3 is you could play for weeks and weeks on just side missions and not follow the actual storyline. Also you can act like a nice guy or a total asshole and that will dictate how things progress and what your missions are, who your friends and enemies are, and how the story ends (if you actually end up ever playing the story).

Not being able to run and shoot was a conscious design choice. I've never finished an RE game but I really enjoyed what I did play of RE4. I've only played the first few minutes of RE5 but so far it doesn't have any sense of eeriness at all. If I'm going to be walking around Africa killing people I think I'd rather just play Far Cry 2. Fallout 3 is a great game, btw.

oh man. fallout consumed so much of my life in the last 2 months it wasnt funny. theres probably over 200 hours of gameplay there if you do it a good guy than a complete bastard.

music creation just got shelved when that hit the PS3.

Oh yeah, I go as far as saying that Fallout 3 is easily my favourite game ever on any platform - the team that put that together is brilliant. And Dead Space is the scariest game I've ever played - intense creepy sound design and surround effects too.

RE5 is not scary at all but it's a fun action game. I never played RE4 so the control system was new to me, but you get used to it pretty quickly. And Sheva's cute. :)

Quick bump to say I finally picked this up and started it. As I expected, mixed feelings so far; like Majestic said above, it's a fun action game but not creepy or scary at all. I dunno, it's just like RE4 except without the tension and foreboding. Not sure how I feel about Sheva yet, but I will say the whole items system is both overly complicated and more difficult without the automatic game pause - not cool. I think for fans of the franchise, this will be seen as simply an underwhelming follow-up to the classic RE4.
