ABLETON 6 VS ABLETON 7

Post by turner2914 » Tue Mar 17, 2009 9:52 pm

whatsup everybody. So my buddy gave me a ableton 6 the other day. I was wondering if ableton 6 is good for making hip hop beatz/glitch/dance/dubstep music or should i upgrade to ableton 7. Or if there is a better type of software out there for making that type of music?

Ableton Live 7 Suite is way better... and in a short while you'll be able to get Live 8 Suite, so don't forget to upgrade to that too!!! You're also going to want a bunch of plugins, like CamelSpace, CamelPhat, Waves Gold Bundle (at least...preferably Platinum or higher), and the UAD-2 Quad Omni (I really want that collection or at least the Moog Multimode Filter)! Don't forget to buy all of Rob Papen's synths and all of Native Instruments plugins and some of the D16 Group drum machines would be good to have too. and since you have Live 6, you might as well buy Reason 4 too as they compliment each other very well.

Only messing around... Live 6 will work fine, and you can definitely find some decent quality free VSTs out there for instruments and effects if you need them (dBlue Glitch being one of those effects - check it out). Eventually you'll probably want to upgrade to Live 8 as it's going to incorporate a lot of highly requested features that some users find necessary to work the way they want to with Live. Aside from that, just look for some good sample librairies. Pure Magnetik has some really good effects racks and samples setup specifically for Live, but you have to pay for them. Good Luck with your music!!! And I hope your buddy gave you a legal license for Live 6 as nobody here likes software pirates.

Maybe it's not the right moment for you to think about that. First make music with what you have. Learn how to use your Live 6, have fun, it's a great great software, and you'll learn/discover new things every day for a long time. There's so many way to make music with it.

Moreover Live 7 was not a very big step from Live 6, it's an expensive upgrade for what it offers, you don't NEED it.

worst thing they ever did. I still keep a copy of 5 on my hard drive, in case I need a BEAT, but I use 7 for DRONEZ. I then mix them together in windows paint.

According to the current pricing structure, it is cheaper to do 6>7>8 than it is to go 6>8.

Someone posted a screenshot of this the other day, I think you can find the pricing scale from the 'Can't wait for 8?' link.

L6 is ass. You can only make cheesy reggaeton and tarnce with it.

L7 on the other hand is sweet. Maybe ask your mate if he can torrent that one for you too - then you can get all the Suite instruments for free by writing an e-mail to [email protected] and letting them know which version you have and the torrent site you downloaded from. They are always happy to help.
