Best place to learn all about synthesizers?
Best place to learn all about synthesizers?
I want to learn about synths from the ground up, any good sites or books that are easier to digest or must reads??? Also sampling as it relates to synthesis?
...
Once I got my Virus KC, my girlfriend got me a book called "Power Tools for Synthesizer Programming by Jim Aikin".
Really nice book, covers the history a lil bit & gets heavily into:
Oscillators, Filters, LFOs, Envelope Generators, Modulation, & Effects Processing.
It also comes with a cd full of examples.
As for sampling as it relates to synthesis..... I don't quite know what you mean by that, mabe....
Sampling is to Live as Synthesis is to Reason.

I have read that book as well and it really helped me to understand what I am doing while programming synthsJacksinMS wrote:Once I got my Virus KC, my girlfriend got me a book called "Power Tools for Synthesizer Programming by Jim Aikin".

I highly recommend getting your hands on something like a nord modular.
the old micro mods are probably pretty cheap now, (got mine for about $400 US new several years ago)
Playing with a highly programable synth like that will give you the experience and understanding you need to use anything. Personally, i learned synthesis (and electronic music in general) by playing with hardware modular synths. I strongly believe that it has given me a serious leg up on other electronic musicians who don't know signal flow as well.
As far as how synthesis relates to sampling, most samplers have the same architecture as synths (y'know - filters, envelopes, LFO's) the only difference is that your sampled wave replaces the oscillator.
